Sous Chef – Catering Team
Savory Thyme Catering & Carp Kitchen is seeking a skilled and motivated Sous Chef to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on kitchen work, thrives in high-end off-site event settings, and is highly organized with strong leadership skills.
Key Responsibilities
Food Production
Lead and support BOH operations for large, high-end off-site catering events
Prepare high-quality foods, sauces, proteins, and event menu items according to recipes and standards
Assist with prep lists, batch cooking, and event pack-out production
Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient workstation
Event & Rental Coordination
Oversee pack-out and production for catering events with strong attention to detail
Communicate clearly about rental and equipment needs based on menu and venue logistics
Support special event menus and seasonal rollouts as needed
Receiving & Inventory Management
Receive deliveries, verify quantities and quality, and maintain accurate invoices
Organize and store products following food safety and company systems
Rotate stock using FIFO procedures to ensure freshness and minimize waste
Communicate product shortages or quality concerns to chefs and management
Collaboration & Compliance
Work closely with Exec chef, management, and event teams to meet production schedules and deadlines
Exhibit calm, professional leadership and foster a collaborative kitchen culture
Ensure all operations follow health, safety, and sanitation standards
Qualifications & Skills
3+ years of kitchen leadership experience (Sous Chef, BOH Lead, or similar), preferably in catering or fine dining
Proven ability to expedite and lead back-of-house team during events
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
Clear and effective communication skills (Spanish language skills a plus)
Ability to lift 50 lbs and work on feet for extended periods
Comfortable working in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
Calm under pressure with excellent problem-solving skills
Schedule Flexible availability: must be available Saturdays and 3-4 weekdays
