Job Description Summary

On-call Prep Cook for Wellness Kitchen to assist with development of healthy cuisine for consumer classes.

Prepare all food items needed for wellness kitchen events, classes using production requirements and quality standards while maintaining a safe, sanitary work environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Prepare food items according to recipes and format of upcoming events, including mis en place and set-up kitchen classes for the shift scheduled to work.

Operate, maintain and properly clean kitchen equipment, including stove, grill, and food processor.

Date all food containers and rotate as per policies, making sure that all perishables are kept at proper temperatures; check pars for shift use, determine necessary preparation, freezer pull and line set up; note any out-of-stock items or possible shortages; return all food items not used to designated storage areas, being sure to cover/date all perishables; assist in setting up plans and actions to correct any food cost problems; control food waste, loss and usage per policies.

Participant in class with RD, assisting Wellness Kitchen guest with food preparation, teaching basic cooking skills, assist chef in class with plating for meal following class, and breaking down set up and cleaning kitchen. Must be a viable part of the team with the goal of having all guests have a positive experience in the Wellness Kitchen.

Education: High school education OR cooking school OR culinary institute education OR equivalent experience.

Experience: Minimum 1 year culinary or related work experience.

Skills and Abilities: Ability to operate, maintain and properly clean stove, food processor, mixer, oven, and grill. Proficient knife skills and ability to multi-task and move quickly. Good communication skills are necessary in relation to teaching guest in Wellness Kitchen.
