Description A prominent Walnut Creek-based law firm is seeking an experienced and motivated Construction Litigation Attorney to join their team on a contract-to-hire basis. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex construction-related disputes, representing clients in matters involving construction defects, contract disputes, mechanic’s liens, delay claims, and insurance coverage issues. The ideal candidate will bring a strong litigation background, excellent problem-solving skills, and a deep understanding of California construction law.Key Responsibilities:
Manage a diverse caseload of construction litigation matters from inception to resolution.
Develop and execute effective legal strategies tailored to clients’ goals and objectives.
Conduct detailed case assessments, including risk and liability analysis.
Draft and file complaints, answers, counterclaims, and motions in compliance with California court rules.
Prepare complex briefs, memoranda, and legal correspondence.
Handle all aspects of discovery, including drafting and responding to interrogatories, requests for production, and subpoenas.
Conduct depositions of parties, witnesses, and experts to gather evidence and build the case.
Manage document review and production, utilizing eDiscovery tools when necessary.
Assist in trial preparation, including drafting trial briefs, organizing exhibits, and preparing witnesses.
Conduct in-depth research on California construction laws, regulations, and case precedents.
Analyze construction contracts, insurance policies, and industry standards to support client representation.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
Active membership in the California State Bar in good standing.
Minimum of 3 years of litigation experience, with a focus on construction disputes.
Familiarity with California construction laws, including the California Mechanic’s Lien Law, construction defect claims, and insurance coverage.
Experience managing cases through all phases of litigation, including trial preparation and resolution.
Strong knowledge of California Code of Civil Procedure and local court rules.
Excellent drafting and writing skills, including pleadings, motions, and discovery documents.
Proficiency in legal research tools (Westlaw, LexisNexis) and case management software.
Strong negotiation and client advocacy skills.
Ability to manage multiple cases in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines.
