The GGGRN is an ongoing, longterm, international effort to measure the global abundances, distributions, and trends of atmospheric greenhouse gases and other trace gases. Air samples are routinely collected from nearly 90 sites around the globe and returned to GML for research quality measurements of a large number of atmospheric trace gases and related isotopic ratios. Our vision is to be instrumental in ensuring a sustainable future environment by advancing scientific and societal understanding of the Earth system.The Global Monitoring Laboratory (GML) (https://www.gml.noaa.gov/) of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) operates long-term observing systems of atmospheric carbon, water vapor, ozone, ozone-depleting substances, aerosols, radiation and clouds, and develops new observing, analytical and modeling capabilities to enable a process understanding of past and future changes.What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Perform routine, ongoing data QC using existing software tools and plotting programs and through independent analyses

Carry out data analysis and compare internal datasets to detect data collection issues

Improve the GGGRN data QC workflow and help develop automated QC processes and programs

Conduct data comparisons with external labs in support of the World Meteorological Organizations Global Greenhouse Gas Watch program

Assist with in-house testing of measurement systems

What You Should Know

This position will be part of CIRES at the University of Colorado Boulder but will be physically situated in the David Skaggs Research Center, 325 Broadway, Boulder, CO 80305.

If you are the selected finalist, you will be required to successfully complete a federal background clearance process for site access. Foreign nationals access to the federal facility may be limited to weekdays, and with the presence of a federal escort.

Given project deliverables, candidates must be able to start work no later than July 1, 2024.

CIRES offers a generous and comprehensive compensation package.

The annual hiring salary range for this position is $60,000- $80,000. Salary is commensurate with education and experience and determined based on our CIRES internal career track classification.

Relocation funds are available for this position following CIRES and the University of Colorados relocation processes and procedures.

After an initial period of training at our federal building in Boulder Colorado, this position will be eligible for a hybrid modality with some days in the office and some days working from home.

Bachelors degree in science, engineering, or a related field, such as statistics, data science, or computer science is required, OR

Bachelors degree in an unrelated field plus experience in related technical, engineering, or scientific fields

What You Will Need

Ability to carefully detail work and to create clear technical documentation and/or presentations for use by others

Attention to detail, organization, and basic practical hands-on skills

Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and work both independently and in a collaborative and inclusive team environment
