The Local is Boulder’s newest neighborhood tavern and full-service restaurant concept featuring American fare with a focus on Texas-style brisket, Southern pulled pork, and updated tavern favorites. The Local offers an elevated, yet casual dining experience in a unique setting with seating available for smaller groups and families, larger parties, and private events. The concept also includes drop-off and full-service, off-site catering operations.
The Local is searching for an experienced Sous Chef to lead all back of the house operations. Direct reports to the PM Sous include the Kitchen Manager, cooks, prep cooks, and utility staff. This role is a key element in The Local’s overall management team and will partner with the General Manager and Assistant General Manager to make decisions for daily operations. This position offers an excellent growth opportunity for a currently successful Sous Chef or Kitchen Manager with the right experience and skills!
Sous Chef Responsibilities
Actively direct kitchen operations with a focus on consistent menu execution and exceptional food quality
Work hands-on in pm kitchen operations (typically on the line)
Create and maintain efficient and effective systems for general kitchen operations
Recruit, onboard and offboard culinary staff as needed
Write schedules based on forecasted sales volume, staff availability, and identified labor targets
Demonstrate and promote a team-based environment
Manage cost of goods, track inventory, and order food and supplies
Assist in staff corrective actions and performance management
Minimum Qualifications
2+ years of progressive leadership experience as a Kitchen Manager, Sous Chef, Executive Sous Chef, or Chef de Cuisine
Proven leadership skills, strong communication skills, and ability to follow through
Thorough knowledge of common kitchen equipment
Ability to motivate others to accomplish goals
Preferred Qualifications
. Proficiency in the Spanish language
· Passion for Southern and/or Texas style BBQ
· Menu development and recipe costing knowledge
· Technology savvy (Outlook email, Word, Excel, etc.)
