JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary:

The Tax Senior Associate is responsible for providing tax and consulting services to our Clients.

Job Duties:

Performs Tax planning, preparation and research for individuals and related business, trusts, and estates

Works closely with managers and partners to insure client engagements are completed and timeliness, budgets, etc. are met

Performs write-up of books and records for business as well as compose written tax advice or responses to IRS inquiries

Contributes to client satisfaction by providing timely services and work product

Demonstrates an understanding of tax concepts and actively pursuing increased tax knowledge through client assignments and current tax developments

Tax Compliance

Ensures both that (a) clients comply with all applicable authorities, while at the same time minimizing their tax and reporting burdens, and (b) self and client service teams comply with all Firm policies, and standards.

Prepares complex tax returns and trains lower level staff members as appropriate; involves specialists where appropriate

Communicates with client and bookkeepers on issues identified in tax return preparation

Plans and reviews the tax process and the procedures to be performed to include:

Monitoring engagement process and actual time incurred vs. budget

Timely billing including management of identified out-of-scope activity and communication to client

Manages client relationships/expectations in accordance with the project

Provides communication to clients in a timely manner

Identifies when research is needed; clearly and concisely frames issues to be researched; and clearly and concisely reports the analysis

Applies most Firm and professional standards for preparation of tax returns

Involves firm partners and engages outside specialists, as appropriate

Introduces and develops new or improved ideas to improve the position of clients, the Firm, or Firm personnel, e.g., by reducing taxes or expenses or providing non-tax benefits

Identifies and leverages lessons learned on prior projects, and offers input on how to improve processes and methods

Trains and develops junior staff

Other duties as required

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Responsible for building a team of professionals by training and working together to serve our clients with timely responses to their needs

Supervises Accountants on all projects

Reviews work prepared by associates and provide review comments

Trains Accountants how to use all current software tools

Acts as a Career Advisor to Accountants

Schedules and manages workload of Accountants

Provides verbal and written performance feedback to Accountants

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Education:

Bachelors degree in Accounting or other relevant field required

Masters degree in Accounting or Taxation preferred

Experience:

2-5 years of public accounting experience working in the private client area, i.e. working on individual, estate, partnership, S-corporation, and trust tax/consulting clients required

License/Certifications:

CPA certification or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (“EA”), required

Software:

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Thompson Reuters Ultra Tax experience preferred

Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Detailed oriented

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Ability to effectively delegate work as needed

Strong analytical, research and critical thinking skills as well as decision-making skills

Capable of developing and managing a team of tax professionals

Capable of effectively developing and maintaining client relationships

Executive presence and ability to act as primary client contact for preparation and presentation of issues and resolutions to clients

Other duties as assigned.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
