Growing together.We are seeking an experienced attorney for a position in the UnitedHealthcare legal department on the Operations & Experience Legal Team. The lawyer in this role will be the primary contact on the team for complex legal and operational issues and/or processes across a variety of topics impacting the administration and operations of government health programs and employer health plans; implementation of operational requirements related to new regulations or requirements; digital innovation impacting consumers, employers, providers, prospects and brokers; electronic signatures and electronic delivery; and artificial intelligence/machine learning and blockchain.You’ll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.Primary Responsibilities:

Managing and developing a staff of legal professionals

Directly provide legal support to members of the UnitedHealthcare Operations & Experience leadership team

Act as a subject matter expert and strategic advisor to UnitedHealthcare in the areas of business enablement, business implementation, core operations, call centers, implementation, billing, eligibility and claims processing for all products

Collaborating with colleagues across the UnitedHealth Group legal, compliance and regulatory affairs department

Proactively identifying and resolving legal and related matters impacting UnitedHealthcare Operations & Experience across all products

Developing best practices for addressing emerging legal and business risks

Supporting UnitedHealthcare Operations & Experience in the development and delivery of new products

Counseling senior management on strategic business initiatives

Managing outside counsel

The successful candidate will possess solid verbal and written communication skills, sound judgment and business instincts. The ability to lead people and change is also critical. The ability to delegate work and operate in a matrixed environment will be important qualities for the successful candidate. Prior law firm and in-house experience are desired, as is prior experience managing a team of legal professionals.You’ll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.Required Qualifications:

Juris Doctorate degree

Current and active license to practice law in at least 1 US jurisdiction

8+ years of professional legal experience

5+ years of management experience

Knowledge of state and federal health care, insurance, privacy and related laws

Ability to build and maintain rapport with superiors, peers, subordinates and external company contacts

A proven track record demonstrating the ability to independently make decisions regarding complex legal and corporate issues

Proven success in collaborating across a matrixed business and legal environment, including excellent written/verbal communications skills, as well as presentation skills

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience managing pre-litigation matters

Experience with healthcare regulatory agencies

Demonstrated experience with implementation of significant changes in law

All employees working remotely will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group’s Telecommuter PolicyThe salary range for this role is $150,200 to $288,500 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with al minimum wage laws as applicable.
