Our team here at The Bivvi Hostel in Telluride; (www.thebivvi-telluride.com) are looking to recruit new staff members to help us out on day to day operations and to drive forward the classic culture of The Bivvi.
We are looking for friendly, hard working and highly motivated individuals to join our team here at The Bivvi Hostel, Telluride. You should be an outgoing, well travelled and social individual, with a strong background in customer service and/or hospitality. Love of the mountains and outdoors is essential
Local knowledge of Telluride and the surrounding area will also go a long way!
We operate with a small team of staff at The Bivvi, and therefore require all staff to do everything on site- this also keeps the shifts refreshing and fun because you are constantly working on different tasks and responsibilities. From working the bar, the reception and front desk, to general cleaning and maintenance of the property while creating a fun, friendly, social but relaxing environment for our guests to enjoy.
Serving primarily as a Hostel, and a small boutique lodge, we attract a demographic of young, chill, like-minded travellers to our establishment from all around the country and the world. This makes for a really awesome, laid back environment which is a real pleasure to work in and around!
We’re always looking to hire people with a similar vibe and energy to our guests themselves, which sets the tone for an awesome experience for everyone.
We have an option for housing for our full time staff members, as well as a Telluride ski area season pass!
Key responsibilities;
Front Desk
Learning the back end computer systems in order to make reservations, edit reservations, cancellations, take payments and check people into their rooms etc.
Answering all phone calls and emails throughout your shift. Answering any questions and queries in an informative but sometimes informal manner. Providing help, guidance and general all around stoke to all our guests as best you can; knowledge of the town and area or just the outdoor industry in general are very helpful!
Bar
Working the bar in the evenings; pouring pints and serving bottled beers/ wines. Working the tab system. Keeping the bar area clean and tidy at all times while socialising with guests
Laundry
Laundry duty; cleaning, drying and folding sheets. Packing away in laundry rooms and keeping it stocked at all times ready for the maid/housekeeping when they come to change out rooms each day between check ins etc.
Breakfast service
Preparing, and serving our breakfast buffet for our guests in the mornings.
Doing all the dishes and cleaning the kitchen and guest dining area post breakfast service.
Learning basic stock rotation and keeping the kitchen stocked each day for next morning's breakfast service.
Cleaning & maintaining premises
We have high standards for cleanliness here at The Bivvi. This means you’ll be responsible for maintaining a clean and tidy environment throughout the hostel during each shift. Common areas; sweeping, wiping down all surfaces, cleaning the bar, keeping the coffee bar stocked at all times, shovelling snow out front and on the deck during the winter and basic yard maintenance during the summer season.
Additional Responsibilities
Keeping an eye on all stock; foods as well as miscellaneous i.e. cleaning products. Noting down on the stock sheet when we’re running low on anything for ease of weekly orders.
Doing on Call shifts; staying overnight at the hostel to keep an eye on things once or twice a week (don’t worry we have a lovely cosy bedroom with a queen bed for a good night's sleep even during an ‘on-call’).
There must always be a member of staff on site in order to help guests with any queries or tend to any rare emergencies- people losing keycards or locking themselves out of the room etc.
General Maintenance of the property; switching light bulbs, small plumbing tasks- unclogging drains etc, paint touch ups… You don’t need to be a super handyman by trade, but some level of competence in property/building maintenance will go a long way!
Previous Hostel experience is not required, but it is a helpful bonus. Ideally someone who is familiar with the hostel environment, is well travelled and has experience in customer service would be preferred!
If you still want to join Team Bivvi and you think you have the necessary experience, skills and personality traits to be a great fit please don’t hesitate to send us a resume and cover letter.
Many thanks and all the best of luck, we look forward to hearing from you soon!
