Job Description In this compelling position, you will be accountable for providing independent, strategic counsel to the Multifamily business line and other functional areas or disciplines across the Company, as needed. THE IMPACT YOU WILL MAKEThe Deputy General Counsel - Senior Director Multifamily Legal role reports to the Multifamily Legal - Vice President, Deputy General Counsel. In this position, you will:

Counsel internal stakeholders implementing the company's strategy for managing portfolio risk in the Multifamily business, whether on performing or nonperforming loans.

Advise and direct company strategies for anticipated or actual litigation and other dispute resolution activities on Multifamily-related matters.

Select and engage outside counsel for matters needing external legal resources.

Manage internal legal support professionals and supervise external legal resources to address specific areas of legal risk.

Oversee and provide strategic direction on matters requiring highly specialized, technical legal knowledge or depth across multiple disciplines.

Provide strategic counsel to executives on significant business issues or initiatives; guide implementation of strategies regarding the same.

Interact with FHFA or other policymakers on Multifamily-related legal matters.

Support corporate compliance and regulatory activities as they relate to the Multifamily business.

Anticipate, develop, and lead trainings and presentations on complex legal matters and policies for internal and external audiences.

Work with Legal Operations to identify and develop process improvements resulting in greater efficiencies, expense reduction, and increased productivity for internal and external resources.

Qualifications THE EXPERIENCE YOU BRING TO THE TEAMMinimum Required Experience

8 years of relevant experience.

People management experience required; equivalent experience in project or practice management may be considered in lieu of direct people management.

Significant experience with commercial real estate finance transactions, including troubled asset resolution, workouts, foreclosure, litigation, and bankruptcy required.

Familiarity with mortgage-backed securitization structures, including fixed-income trusts and REMICs, highly desired.

Exposure to and familiarity with housing finance legislation and regulations preferred.

Juris Doctor required with admission in good standing to a U.S. jurisdiction.

Must have excellent client-service skills and commercial orientation to help clients achieve business objectives.

Must have excellent writing and contract drafting skills with strong attention to detail.

Must be able to communicate effectively and persuasively, orally and in writing, with internal and external stakeholders of all levels.
