The News Director, who will report to the Vice President of News, will be responsible for executing the strategic mission for the News organization while ensuring that the highest levels of journalistic, legal, production and promotional standards are maintained. The position will oversee big stories, breaking news, weather and sweeps planning with an eye toward budget, payroll, staffing, and news operations to meet operational goals. This position will also be integrally involved in innovation in our duopoly newsroom and executing new ways to cover news across all platforms.Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Work with VP, News to plan short and long term strategies across multiple platforms

Manage day-to-day coverage, major events, and breaking news across

Implement strategies and tactics to increase ratings and performance in all newscasts

Oversee specials units including investigative /consumer units, elections coverage and other station events

Provide guidance at editorial meetings for daily newscasts

Work with Director of Integrated Media to develop new content for digital and streaming platforms, including OTT and FAST

Provide leadership to News professionals, driving culture of creativity, excellence and diversity of thought in a multi-platform environment

Train and develop news staff in coordination with other news managers

Develop and manage ongoing staff recruitment in all news production areas

Ensure the daily goals and missions are executed, tracked and communicated to the staff

Evaluate workflow efficiencies and staffing to ensuring editorial resources are allocated most effectively and expectations are met

Work with leadership team to identify talent and develop pipeline for key positions

Provide consistent, effective communication to the newsroom on all facets of operations and station life

Ensure standards are met and newsroom’s policies and procedures are followed

Partner closely with T44 News Director to ensure stations to ensure the most effective duopoly operations

Schedule anchors, reporters regularly

Back-up VP, News as needed

Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum 3 years' experience in News leadership role in a medium to large market

Minimum 5 years' experience in News

Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications or equivalent work experience
