Job OverviewThe Knight-Georgetown Institute (KGI) is seeking its first Policy Analyst. KGI was recently established to translate research about technology and the online information environment for policy and industry audiences, and to connect and convene academics with policy stakeholders.The Policy Analyst will play a crucial role in this work by researching and assessing the policy landscape, synthesizing research results of relevance to policy debates, and helping to organize policy-related events.The Policy Analyst will be expected to contribute across KGI’s focus areas: tech platform regulation and design, generative AI and public trust, and competition issues in tech. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to high-impact policy analysis and to engage with policymakers, researchers, and the media. KGI is a brand new organization and the person taking on this role will have the opportunity to help build KGI’s presence and reputation at the intersection of policy and research. Work InteractionsReporting to the Executive Director, the Policy Analyst will work collaboratively across the small but growing organization, including with KGI’s Research Director and graduate student affiliates.As well, they will build connections with other Georgetown colleagues focused on technology, public policy, and society, as well as with policy communities and coalitions in civil society and industry.Work Mode DesignationThis position has been designated as Hybrid. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University. Such review may necessitate a change to a position’s mode of work designation. We prioritize in-person days together as a team at least once per week and we rely heavily on Slack, Gmail, Asana, and Zoom to stay connected synchronously and asynchronously.Requirements and Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in any field with coursework experience related to public policy or technology

3+ years of relevant experience in policy analysis, research, or a related area

Demonstrated interest in technology and public policy, including tech platforms and/or AI

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear analysis

Understanding of the policymaking process at the US federal level

Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

Proven ability to take initiative independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines

Intellectual curiosity and a desire to learn

Proficiency in Google Suite products and a quick learning curve to adapt to new programs - i.e., Asana, Slack

Preferred Qualifications

Graduate degree in any field related to public policy or technology

Familiarity with quantitative social science research methods

Direct experience in policy or advocacy at the federal or state levels pertaining to social media, trust and safety, content moderation, misinformation, or platform competition

Ability to excel at policy analysis, research synthesis, and policy stakeholder engagement

A strong commitment to quality and to thrive in a collaborative environment
