Seek Live-in Aide/roommate/big brother/sister-type relationship in top-floor two-bedroom, one bath, pet-free apartment provided in Vienna VA. Included are all utilities, cable, parking, facilities such as pool and gym. The actual location you will work daily will alternate between this Vienna apartment and an apartment in our house (parents’ house; apartment includes small kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and living room) in Falls Church, VA. We need assistance and encouragement by a compassionate, fun, competent, articulate english-speaking, reliable and conscientious person to help transition our son (a fine artist/painter with a sweet disposition and very mild autism) back to staying overnight more often at his Vienna apartment. Hours are Monday through Friday, and some hours on weekends occasionally when we go out of town. Actual hours spent with our son to to be discussed; can be 40-90 hours per week, TBD. Our son usually returns to our house on weekends when he works with another aide.
Some medical background preferred as our son is recovering from pneumonia and may require overseeing administering/monitoring oxygen levels, blood pressures, pulse, as well as some familiarity with the autism spectrum. Duties: oversee some post-pneumonia medical exercises and help with daily tasks when able such as light cleaning, drive to art lessons, piano lessons, activities, doctor appointments, go on walks and know how to gently encourage mild physical activity. Must be a non-smoker and very safe driver with good driving record. (Car will be provided to drive our son to and from activities). Being able to meal plan healthy meals and cook them is a must, and it would be preferred for our son to be involved in shopping, cooking and planning. (He enjoys cooking shows and this would be a fun activity.) Our son responds well to warm, caring people with a good sense of humor, and has a very pure heart that everyone who works with him comes to know. He loves to paint, play piano, read, play games like Zelda, Pokemon and Mario, Playstation, go to/watch movies, and watch some TV shows like Star Wars, Great British Baking Show, and Glow Up, etc.
We hire our aides through Consumer Direct Services, we can start an employment application for you as soon as you are hired; the turnaround is quick and does require a background check. Clearance for becoming a live in aide goes through Fairfax County, so may take a little longer to be approved to actually move into the apartment. The salary is $17.62/hour with 2 weeks a year sick leave. Please submit references and resume.
