Diesel Fleet Mechanic

Duties and Specifications:

Lead Mechanic

Plans and heads the operations of the company's main garage and other jobsites as necessary.

Develops and maintains efficient shop performance standards, procedures, and policies.

Assures accuracy of parts inventories and inventory on trucks.

Develops and maintains division budget.

Directs repair, service and maintenance of company vehicles.

Develops and supervises vehicle preventive maintenance schemes.

Reviews periodic repair procedures to ensure completeness, accuracy, and efficiency.

Recommends vehicles meant for replacement and arranges for necessary disposal or auction.

Trains and assesses training for junior mechanics.

Ensures that all drivers are maintaining safety compliance for vehicles and equipment.

Directs supervisory staff of any planning of automotive repair and maintenance jobs.

Investigates vehicle accidents, negotiates for any possible settlements, and authorizes any repairs or maintenance of company vehicles.

Monitors GPS and cameras.

Maintains tags and registrations.

Washing vehicles for crews.

Skills and Specifications:

Use diagnostic tools to test vehicle components.

Specialize in vehicle transmission systems.

Be able to create and oversee inventories of fleet as well and other company equipment, including small hand-held tools.

Routine maintenance for vehicles and repair vehicles offsite when necessary.

Be able to oversee scheduling of vehicle repairs and maintenance.

Must be able to create preventative vehicle maintenance programs and evaluation schedules.

Be able to prepare vehicle specifications meant for purchase.

Must know how to operate and utilize computerized tracking systems for all fleet records.

Must keep all vehicles in compliance with Florida DMV/DOT and other applicable agencies.

Be able to analyze full operating costs.

Must have a good attitude and be able to work well with all employees.

Must be able to provide vehicle maintenance records for insurance compliance.

Generate capital refurbishment schedule based on need and available capital funding.

Ensure proper disposal and documentation of waste stream items.

Education and Qualifications

4 years of automotive experience and ability to thrive in a fast-paced capacity.

4 years of experience in fleet operations and repair and maintenance of vehicles.

Communication and organizational skills are a MUST.

Deadline and detail oriented.

Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.

Valid FL driver’s license – CDL preferred.
