The person who fills this role plays a central part in creating and maintaining how the residents feel about being in the program. The chief is the primary conduit of communication from the residents to the program administration. The importance of this role cannot be overstated. Ensure that QR reader is up with the correct activity code at least 5 minutes before the start time. Prepare 5 questions for the end of each GR session.· Didactics Logistics – Communication in this area is essential for an optimal learning experience. The chief should ensure lecture PowerPoints and questions are given to the residents as early as possible so they can review prior to the presentation. A reminder of block and quarterly self- assessments should come from the chief 1 week ahead of time. An attachment that lists the topics to be covered along with an aggregate list of questions for the self-assessment should accompany this email. The chief will work closely with Dr. Gardner to schedule the didactic presentations as well. The chief resident is responsible for administering, scoring, and reviewing the block and quarterly self-assessments and contacting any resident who does not perform well. · Attendance Tracking (GR, Didactics) QR code readers are essential here. · Absence Tracking (GR, Didactics, Clinical)· Duty Hours Logging Tracking. The Chief will review duty hours each week and contact any residents that have not logged in their hours. May work with the program assistant on this task. · Organizing Residents for Recruitment – The Chief will ensure that each recruitment day has an ambassador and that the residents are equipped with the information that they need for an informative tour. If recruitment is virtual, the chief will ensure that there are residents to meet the applicants on each interview day. · Organizing Individualized Curriculum Options for Residents – The chief will provide the IC (Individualized Curriculum) list (work with PD (Program Director) to ensure list is up to date) to the residents and take requests for ICs (Individualized Curriculum) for the year. The chief will ensure that the contacts are made with IC course directors to check availability of the IC during the block requested by the residents. Then the chief will get the schedule of IC block dates to each course director as it applies. · Resident Wellness Check-ins – The chief resident should regularly check in with the residents to see how they are doing with program requirements, independent study plans and personal well-being (if they wish to share it). They are to be reminded of mental health resources that are available to them as well. This would not be a time to talk about their performance except to see how the program can support them as they progress through. · Encourage residents to volunteer for program committees and positions (Community Outreach Chair, Wellness Chair, Program Evaluation Committee Representative, Resident Association Representative, American Academy of Pediatrics Representative, Research Committee Representative, Graduate Medical Education Quality Improvement Committee Representative.· Work with the program director to follow resident scholarly output efforts. · Follow up with residents about how elements of the program are going and solicit their feedback for improvements.Pre-Employment/Employment Requirements All offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of all pre-employment screenings.Immunization Immunization Requirements It is MSM’s Immunization policy that all Prospective Employees are required to provide proof that they are vaccinated against COVID -19 prior to commencement of employment.
