Construction Field Specialist/Engineer – Plant SchererSouthern Company Services, Construction Projects EastThis position will be located at Plant Scherer in Juliette, GAWe are recruiting entry level and experienced individuals for a project & construction site role supporting various construction projects executed by the Scherer Projects team.JOB SUMMARYThis position serves to provide oversight and management of major capital projects for the Projects East group within our Technical & Shared Services (TSS) organization. This position is responsible for project safety, quality, cost and schedule requirements. Responsibilities include working closely with various TSS departments as well as groups outside of TSS such as Generation Development, Retail Generation Services, and Research & Environmental Affairs to develop project portfolio packages in support of project development activities. Work products include developing various project deliverables, as dictated by the specific requirements of each individual work scope, to include items such as detailed scopes of work, cost estimates, and schedules for the engineering, procurement, and construction/implementation of processes, programs, facilities, or site improvements being undertaken by the Project East team.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
This position requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a variety of stakeholders in order to solve issues and keep projects moving forward. (engineering, asset managers, owners/operators, craft labor, contractors, internal stakeholders, customers, and outside agencies)
Utilize computer-based business tools to monitor and manage schedule and cost reporting.
The ability to work across various technologies and systems to achieve organizational goals.
The successful candidate must be available for call outs, holidays and weekends.
Candidate must be able to adapt to changing work duties, be able to work with limited supervision, and must be able to perform successfully in an individual and team environment.
Must be able to work in extreme climates and environments (e.g., cold, hot, dusty, humid) and may require some extended work hours

JOB QUALIFICATIONSEducation (preferred):
Associates (2-year) or Bachelors (4-year) degree preferred, but not required
Preferred disciplines include: Building Science, Construction Management, Engineering, or another related field
Project Management Professional or similar accreditation/professional license beneficial
Experience (Strongly preferred):
Field oversite of active construction projects and processes
Experience (preferred):
Power generation experience
Industrial experience
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Knowledge of various equipment and technologies applicable to power generation facilities
Proven risk assessment skills and sound judgment/decision making
Ability to lead diverse teams toward a common goal
Ability to build strong working relationships with a wide range of Southern Company organizations
Strong organizational, administrative, time management, project management, facilitation and analytical skills are required
Knowledge and experience with personal computers and the ability to learn numerous software applications quickly.
Self-motivation and demonstrated initiative is crucial for this position
Ability to interface with vendors and contractors while representing the best interests of Southern Company
