Title: Design Engineering ManagerReports to: VP of EngineeringJob Purpose: Serves as the direct manager of the Design Engineers, provides technical leadership within the Engineering department, and is responsible for all engineering design-related activities.Location: Atlanta, GAKey Responsibilities and Accountabilities:Plan, implement, and manage customer support functions:Manages, mentors and trains Design EngineersActively engages with Design Engineers and other Engineering team members at all other facilitiesManage all Design Engineering processes and standard work, with a focus on continuous process improvementAlong with the VP of Engineering, develops and maintains a cadence for on-site support at all other facilitiesThrough the Kata process, works to implement changes and Continuous Improvement projects for Manufacturing supportCreates engineering, working, tooling and fixture drawings as required by current projectsReviews and provides feedback on part, tooling, fixture, and gauge designs via the Design Review processMaintains Vault drawing database through periodic auditsCoordinates drawing changes with the appropriate departmentsParticipates in PPC meetings and updates PPC documents for EngineeringEvaluates customer data and contacts customer as necessary to determine critical dimensions and part functionDelegates development of engineering drawings from customer prints, samples and/or other customer-supplied informationAssists in PPAP creation as required for new designs/partsAssists with performing DFMEAs and PFMEAs as required for new designs/partsCreates and maintains ERP part data in support of manufacturingAssists in the development and maintenance of Engineering standard work documentsInvestigates, coordinates, and completes engineering change requests with the appropriate departmentsDetermines necessary data for engineering evaluations of quality and manufacturing issuesMaintains part approval history and leads part validation & verification processSupports programming, operation, and maintenance of select automated machinerySupports Tooling Design Engineer in designing and validating tooling, fixtures, and gauges in support of manufacturingAssist VP of Engineering with building and executing the department’s long-term strategy and visionOperate within Company Parameters:Champion continuous improvement efforts through knowledge and awareness, training, and process improvement.Maintains an organized, clean, and safe work area using 6S guidelines and participates in audits as requiredLiaise with other functional groups and departments to support operational capabilities, changes, and improvements and to communicate timelines and deliverables to complete projects on time.Ensure activities meet and integrate with organizational requirements for quality management, health and safety, legal stipulations, environmental policies and general duty of careExecute all responsibilities according to lawful and ethical standards as established by company policies and proceduresKey Measures of Success:Gross MarginSafety RecordablesCost of Poor Quality (COPQ)On-Time Launch (OTL)On Time Delivery (OTD)Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)6S Audit
