Job Description The Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) System Engineering Division (SEN) is currently seeking a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) Engineer for a full-time research position. SEN is predominantly focused on the research, development, testing, and deployment of embedded electronic and electromechanical systems, with a focus on open-systems architectures. These embedded systems are used for Electronic Warfare (EW), industrial controls, communications, avionics, in-flight entertainment, physiological monitoring, and other applications. This position supports the design, development ,and implementation of a wide variety of algorithms in programmable hardware using the latest high-speed/high-density FPGAs and System-on-Chips (SoC). This may include high bandwidth data collection, digital signal processing, data manipulation, custom interfaces, and SoC processor interaction. Additional job functions include developing and integrating the processed data with consumers, including software algorithms that will further refine and manipulate the data. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE Analyze system and functional requirements to develop solutions Develop test benches and simulations to test and validate Hardware Description Language (HDL) designs Develop FPGA infrastructure functionality for SoC processor interaction Implement Digital Signal Processing algorithms prototyped in MATLAB or C Integrate system components and support equipment in laboratory and fielded settings Serve as technical expert on assigned projects and systems to include latest industry standards, system interfaces, engineering tools, and road maps for current and future updates Participate in technical meetings with sponsors and industry collaborators Develop technical papers for conferences and present briefings to potential sponsors Perform other duties as assigned Travel Requirements Education & Length of Experience Research Engineer/Scientist I A Bachelor's degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field. Research Engineer/Scientist II A Master's degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree, A Master's degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree, or A Doctoral degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field. Required Minimum Qualifications Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor's degree program relevant to this position will be considered. Candidate must have a graduation date of no later than August. Experience in development of programmable logic Experience with HDL development Preferred Qualifications 3+ years of experience with HDL development Experience with high speed digital sampling and processing of RF signals Experience with SoC architectures Experience developing systems for military or high reliability applications Experience collaborating with technical and managerial sponsor representatives Experience leading sponsored research projects and/or leading small to mid-sized engineering teams Active SECRET clearance U.S. Citizenship Requirements Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
