The National Tropical Botanical Garden is seeking candidates for the position of Full Time Horticulture Manager of the South Shore Gardens, located on Kauai, HI. The purpose of this position is to ensure the ongoing health, longevity, and aesthetics of all plantings within the McBryde, Allerton and Visitor Center Gardens in alignment with NTBG's conservation, research, cultural & historic preservation and educational goals. The position’s primary responsibility is leading a team of diverse staff to care for plant health and display horticulture in all of the South Shore Gardens. It entails collaboration with other departments within NTBG as needed. This is a “hands-on” physically demanding position that requires dynamic leadership skills.
Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture or related field required and 5 plus years’ practical experience managing the daily operations of a horticulture team. Botanical garden experience is a plus. Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to work proficiently with Microsoft Office and Google products.
Requires comprehensive knowledge and skills in all aspects of landscape management. Able to manage, and have appreciation of, scientific and research collections as well as food crop plantings, ornamental plantings and turf grass. Experience in working with federally listed endangered species is a plus. Must be knowledgeable in herbicide and pesticide uses and applications.
Must have a valid Pesticide Applicators license or be able to obtain one shortly after hire. Must have a valid Driver’s license and the ability to travel occasionally.
Schedule: Monday-Friday Days with some exceptions
Pay Range: $65,000-$72,000/ yr. DOE
