Plans, develops, oversees, promotes, and coordinates recycling events and activities; supervises daily operations; and performs other related duties as required.
One (1) immediate permanent full-time vacancy with Mr. K’s Recycle & Redemption Center Inc. (Mr. K’s)
Examples of Duties:
- Plans, develops, implements, and coordinates island-wide recycling for Mr. K’s.
- Conducts studies to determine needs for recycling island wide; researches and evaluates trends and existing programs.
- Conducts feasibility studies of existing recycling and resource recovery programs; evaluates and prepares recommendations and proposals for review.
- Researches and evaluates potential new markets for recyclable materials; researches, evaluates, and promotes the development of expansion markets; monitors market prices.
- Plans, develops, and coordinates demonstration projects; evaluates project objectives; recommends development or termination of project.
- Researches and writes grant applications to secure additional funding from available county, state and federal grants and funds.
- Initiates action to obtain consultants and other contractual services as required; evaluates proposals and makes recommendations for selection.
- Provides technical assistance regarding recycling and waste reduction; develops and monitors contracts.
- Works with community organizations and businesses to promote Mr. K’s.
- Develops educational and informational materials and brochures; develops and coordinates promotional activities relative to recycling; conducts media and social media advertising; conducts training and informational workshops.
- Works with school administrators and community groups to coordinate the distribution of informational materials and to conduct workshops to promote recycling.
- Plans, assigns, and reviews the work of subordinates; evaluates work performance and provides training as necessary; approves and reviews leave requests and timesheets; recommends personnel actions such as hiring, promotions, transfers, and disciplinary actions.
- Prepares annual operating and capital improvement budgets; monitors inventory and expenditures.
- Create and maintain recycling information database for Mr. K’s.
- May represent Mr. K’s at public hearings, informational meetings, and other community or organizational meetings.
- Track and makes recommendations on proposed legislation; prepares and offers testimony before legislative bodies on pending legislation.
- Prepares written analyses and operational reports.
- Ensures the compliance of all Federal, State, and County laws, regulations, and policies related to safety, health, and environmental matters.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to:
graduation from an accredited college or university with a major in business or public administration, urban planning, civil or environmental engineering, environmental science, public health, psychology, sociology, or a related field (attach a copy of your official college transcript to your application), and
four (4) years of work experience in the management, development, and implementation of recycling, waste reduction, waste recovery, or comparable programs, and
possession of a valid State of Hawai`i driver's license (Class 3) or any other valid comparable driver's license at the time of filing.
Knowledge of: principles and practices of business administration; public relations; public speaking; principles of human behavior; recycling and waste reduction techniques, laws, and regulations; recycling education and promotion principles; trends and developments in recycling; familiarity with issues, problems, and concerns relating to environmental health; government and community organizations and functions; research methods and techniques; grant writing; report writing.
Ability to: plan, develop, and coordinate comprehensive recycling, information, education, and promotion programs; interpret and apply laws and regulations; organize, plan, coordinate, implement, and monitor projects; establish and maintain effective working relationships with governmental agencies, the public, and other employees; communicate effectively, orally, and in writing; provide technical assistance concerning recycling programs; evaluate operations and implement changes; prepare grant applications; prepare analytical reports with recommendations.
