Role Overview: IHCDA’s Legal Department assists the agency in ensuring IHCDA’s compliance with State and federal regulations, overseeing the agency’s contracting and processes, and advising and representing the agency as legal issues arise. Salary Statement: The hourly rate for this position is $16.24 for those who do not hold a bachelor’s degree & $17.24 for those who hold a bachelor’s degree or higher by the time the internship starts. A Day in the Life: The essential functions of this role are as follows:Research Project
In collaboration with the Legal Department, select a legal topic to research. Examples of topics include issues in bankruptcy, foreclosure or fair housing law. The intern will be responsible for writing a memo about their findings on the issue and presenting findings to the Legal Department and other IHCDA staff as appropriate.
Day-to-day Legal Activities
Review of policy or program manuals to ensure compliance with federal and State laws and regulations
Contract and Grant Drafting and Review
Drafting appearances, motions, and other court documents in foreclosure cases in which IHCDA has an interest
Reviewing liens when a property is being transferred to determine whether they may be released or whether a payoff is required
Ensuring public records requests are fulfilled in compliance with the Indiana Access to Public Records Act

Must be currently enrolled in an accredited law school pursuing a Juris Doctorate or Master of Jurisprudence degree. Candidates enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate with an accredited post-secondary institution who have completed at least one (1) year of undergraduate education and are in a pre-law program or otherwise demonstrate an interest in law may also be considered.
