Description The Robert Half Healthcare Practice is working with an Indianapolis healthcare company to find a new Medical Charge Entry Specialist to join their team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of medical terminology, CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 coding, as well as experience with electronic health records (EHR/EMR) or healthcare related computer systems. Hours: Monday - Friday 8a-5pResponsibilities for the position will include the following:
Accurate entry of physician charges
Maintaining knowledge of all procedural and diagnostic codes
Identifying appropriate codes and informing staff when services are coded incorrectly
Working with staff to resolve coding issues and associated problems
Balancing charges daily
Posting of payments collected by office or department
Maintaining strict confidentiality
Posting each batch in a timely fashion confirming patient’s account number, date of service, name, and date of birth to ensure payment is being applied to correct account
Applying all proper adjustments to patient accounts to include deductible, copays, coinsurance and contractual adjustments. Direct denials to the appropriate department
Verify batch totals, edit and reconcile all posted payment batches from the software on a daily basis to ensure accounts have been balanced and batches are closed
Follow-up with patients and ensure outstanding balances are paid
Utilize an A/R report to identify outstanding balances
Coordinate payment arrangements
Research mail returns for current patient demographics
Submits accounts to collection agency
Requirements
High School diploma/GED required, Associates/Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Credentials preferred: RHIA or RHIT. Additional certifications preferred from AHIMA or AAPC, but not required.
Software: Medical EHR/EMR experience preferred
Soft Skills Requirements: Organized, sets priorities, meets deadlines
At least 3 years experience as a Charge Entry Rep in medical billing
At least 1 year experience with clinical and technical claims denial management in medical billing setting
Demonstrated understanding of medical terminology required
Knowledge of patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations
Knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, AND ICD-10 coding required
Understand insurance regulations as they apply to the job function
Knowledge of electronic health records (EHR/EMR) or healthcare related computer systems
