Substation Engineer

Actalent is seeking an Electrical Engineer with an interest in Power Delivery and Renewables projects to join the Substation team at an engineering firm supporting projects with KU and LG&E. This engineer can sit near Lexington, KY or Chattanooga, TN, and will be a key member of a growing team providing day-to-day execution of electrical engineering and design work for power delivery facilities, specifically substations, solar, battery storage, and hydropower stations. Cross training between multiple power delivery projects and the ability to cross train in different areas such as substation, power generation and distribution.Responsibilities: Preparing detailed design packages for new and modifications to existing power delivery facilities; projects include new solar and battery storage facilities across the country. Modification projects could include relay protection upgrades, control system upgrades, substation upgrades, excitation, governor, and power system upgrades Engineering calculation reports such as load flow, short circuit, grounding and arc flash studies Major plant equipment specification such as generators, oil-filled and dry-type transformers, medium and low voltage motors, switchgear, motor control centers, PLC and DCS control systems Coordinating power plant electrical engineering design effort with other disciplines and project personnel Performing cable, raceway and equipment sizing calculations Cable and conduit schedules and routing drawings Developing input and output (I/O) list and interface with the plant control system Testing and commissioning plans Technical leadership with mentorship from lead engineers Reviewing engineering work deliverables following QA/QC procedures Self-managing projects and tasks assigned and providing status updates as neededSkills:substation, Design, Power delivery, power engineering, EIT, substation designAdditional Skills & Qualifications:Must HavesElectrical Engineering DegreeEIT Certsubstation project experienceAbout Actalent Actalent is a global leader in engineering and sciences services and talent solutions. This encompasses executing top-tier performance tuning and recovery procedures for mission-critical enterprise systems. As a technical expert in Infrastructure as Code (IaS), Terraform, AWS automation, and system administration within a complex global organization, the position requires additional proficiency in Windows Server and Active Directory technologies.The ideal candidate is characterized by strong analytical abilities and exceptional problem-solving skills. They are expected to assume a leading technical role in new areas, showcasing the ability to swiftly acquire in-depth knowledge, both technical and non-technical, even without prior experience or formal training. Demonstrated adaptability and effectiveness in dynamic environments are essential. Moreover, the candidate should excel in functioning creatively and efficiently within a highly cost-conscious setting.
