SUBSTITUTIONS:Training in a business or clerical-related curriculum in a business school or technical institute will substitute for the required experience on the basis of six months of training for six months of experience. College training will substitute for the required experience on the basis of 15 semester hours for six months of experience. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:All persons appointed to this job will be required by the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Louisiana State Police Terminal Operator Certification Program Guidelines to meet the terminal operator certification/re-certification requirement within six months of employment. Examples of WorkThe Communications Officer is a critical position and responsible for receiving, screening and properly responding to incoming calls concerning both emergency and non-emergency calls. The positions is extremely important as officer or civilian lives may be adversely impacted by the response.75% COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER/DISPATCHAnswer emergency and non-emergency telephone calls and requests for law enforcement services; determine the nature of the call and deploy the appropriate personnel and equipment; operate computer-sided dispatch system and various mission critical communications equipment.Adhere to department code of ethics; maintain proficiency in established policies, procedures, telecommunication equipment and geography of area served.Answer and transmit messages over a two-radio.Receive and respond to information requests by officers.Assists Criminal Investigations Division with background investigations on applicants for police officer positions, quarterly report and other statistics as required.
