This position is responsible for statewide Foodborne, Waterborne and Environmental transmitted infectious disease surveillance and response. This position will be supervised by a Program Manager 2 and supervises fourteen subordinates (2 PH Epidemiologist Supervisor, 2 PH Epidemiologist Specialists, 2 PH Epidemiologists, 2 Epidemiologist Technicians, 3 RN Program Coordinators, 1 Business Analytics Specialist, and 2 WAE PH Epidemiologist Technicians). Requires high-level technical epidemiologic and statistical skills. Job Duties and Responsibilities:25% Management of complex statewide surveillance system for Foodborne, Waterborne and Environmental Transmitted Infectious Diseases. Plans, organizes, directs and supervises the activities of the surveillance program, including all field operations of the epidemiologic surveillance and response. This comprises oversight of all food and water-borne disease reports as well as all local, statewide and multi-state outbreak investigations.15% Evaluates epidemiologic data in order to guide the agency administration in the development of programs and policies to prevent the spread of disease, disability, mortality. Conducts cross-program evaluation; supervises epidemiologists, epidemiologist specialists and epidemiologist supervisors in the design of intervention studies, data collection, analysis and data interpretation. Directs the implementation of control and prevention measures, evaluates program effectiveness, and initiates and/or approves measures to achieve improvement.15% Oversees the preparation of the Foodborne, Waterborne and Environmental transmitted infectious disease sections of the Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (ELC) grant. Prepares program budget in coordination with IDEpi program managers. Monitors grant activity execution and progress.15% Serves as the expert in control & prevention activities for infectious diseases across foodborne, waterborne, and environmentally transmitted disease program areas.10% Serves as a technical trainer in infectious disease surveillance research and evaluation. Coordinates and supervises the development and implementation of the epidemiology curriculum. 10% Presents epidemiological data to legislators, communities, and other agencies. Assists the State Epidemiologist in preparing epidemiologic data analysis for inclusion in legislative justification. Advises and consults with agency administration, government officials and community agencies/organizations and others on epidemiologic principles to assess community needs and resources, develop plans and specifications for new projects, programs etc. Attends and participates in public health related meetings of local government bodies, civic organizations, national organizations and other groups to serve as an epidemiological advisor/expert. May respond to the news media at the local, state or national level.5% Plans and coordinates epidemiological services in health emergencies (e.g. natural disasters, biological terrorism events, chemical spills, industrial explosions, disease and injury outbreaks or clusters) as needed to insure and maintain community/public health or when requested to do so by the State Health Officer.5% May serve on national or multi-state teams or task forces for epidemiology dealing with threats across state boundaries.
