In addition, the University is part of the Five Colleges (including Amherst College, Hampshire College, Mount Holyoke College, and Smith College), which adds to the intellectual energy of the region.Job SummaryIn a manner consistent with the policies laid out by UMass Recreation and Wellbeing, the Departmental Assistant - RecWell Climbing will provide essential support for the smooth functioning of the department’s operations.Essential Functions

Assisting in coordinating various recreational and wellbeing programs, activities, and services.

Providing detailed feedback to the Associate Director for Programs and Student Development for future improvements.

Administrative duties include.

Assisting with student payroll tracking and related HR functions.

Coordination of student staffing to meet programmatic and operational needs.

Assisting with the coordination of equipment replacement and maintenance.

On-Site supervision includes, but not limited to:

Providing logistical support to students.

Evaluating and mentoring student staff continually.

Troubleshooting issues as they arise.

Other Functions

Performs other duties as assigned

Ability to represent UMass Amherst, and the Department of Recreation and Wellbeing in a manner commensurate with university and department values

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

Previous work experience in a climbing facility.

Nationally accredited climbing certification (e.g. Single Pitch or Climbing Wall Instructor)

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications.

Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

This position may require moderate physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 25 pounds.

Work Schedule

20 hours/week, as needed, not to exceed 40 hours/week.

Availability to work evenings and weekends.

This is a temporary, non-benefited position.

Salary Information

$25/Hour.
