Responsibilities
Cook has the following responsibilities with direct responsibility to the Kitchen Manager who is overseen by an Alumni Board member.
- To manage and maintain the Chapter kitchen to include food preparation and ensuring cleanliness and order.
- Ensuring that code requirements of the City, University and insurance companies are met.
- Providing ten (10) meals per week during a shift between 10:30am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday for lunch and dinner; with 2 additional hours each week coordinated with Kitchen Managers.
- Ensuring that sufficient food is available including a vegetarian option for each meal.
- Assist in serving meals.
- Ensuring that personal hygiene and hand washing requirements are met.
- Performing a light cleanup after lunch, and following the final meal of the day cleaning all of the work areas to include kitchen shelves, cutting board, countertops, stove, grill, and sink as well as washing all utensils used in meal preparation, such as pots, pans and cooking utensils.
- Ensuring that hand washing and personal hygiene are in place by all who work in the kitchen.
- Providing his own clean work clothes.
- Ordering and obtaining food from or through satisfactory wholesale food distributor(s) and ensuring that all invoices from said wholesale food distributors are satisfactorily
itemized and reviewed with the Chapter Kitchen Manager and/or the Chapter Treasurer.
- Ordering and obtaining cleaning supplies for both the kitchen and Chapter cleanup crews as needed.
- Ensuring cleanliness of all food storage to include refrigerator, freezer and pantry.
- Ensuring that all frozen deliveries are promptly stored in the freezer and that other deliveries are appropriately stored.
- Working with the Kitchen Manager in an ongoing manner to address ongoing planning, operational details, weekly menu review and other concerns.
Job Summary
Responsible for daily preparation of lunch and dinner for approximately 26 society members during year. Maintains safety and cleanliness in kitchen area, maintains inventory, and prepares shopping list, purchases inventory items, and stocks food on shelves. Develops weekly menus.
Essential Job Functions
- Plans meals in conjunction with the House Director and the Fraternity leadership.
- Prepares list and grocery shops.
- Prepares lunch and dinner for society residents five days a week.
- Plans and prepare meals with the Kitchen Manager and the Society leadership for all special occasions.
- Ensures food items are available for breakfast seven days a week.
- Trains and supervises the kitchen crew.
- The Cook and Kitchen Manager will maintain an on-going inventory in the commissary.
- The Cook is accountable to the Kitchen Manager, Chapter officers, and the Society's alumni board for kitchen operations.
Required Qualifications:
This position requires a high school diploma plus Experience in Meal preparation, sufficient to demonstrate the ability to perform the job.
