Cooking Job + Housing on Lake Erie island from May-Oct. Make stylish food, friends and memories all at once!
at The Forge, we serve gourmet crepes, exquisite cocktails and unique coffee concoctions on a trendy resort island in Lake Erie.
I am seeking high energy, capable cooks. Someone who can work quickly, follow plate presentation and uphold high food safety standards. If you have never worked in a kitchen, don't worry! I can train anyone who is positive and determined. We have two kitchens: a typical back of house kitchen (fryer, a gas range and flattop only, no grill!) and an open kitchen in the front of the house where customers can see our Crepe and Salad stations. People love watching our crepes being crafted so please apply if you are comfortable cooking in front of an audience!
I am looking to fill the following positions:
2 Breakfast cooks - flattop experience with eggs is a plus!
2 Saute cooks
3 Crepe cooks - (We train on the large French crepe irons, any culinary students want to master a new skill?)
2 Salad station cooks - Good spot for anyone new to a kitchen or cooking! Everyone can make beautiful salads with a little practice!
1 Prep cook
1 Dishwasher
Starting wage for dishwashers and salad or prep cooks is 11.00$
Saute cooks with experience start at 13.00$
Breakfast cooks with experience start at 14.00$
48 hours of work per week required One 8 hour shift per day + additional hours available on weekend days. One set day off every week, always on a Mon, Tue or Wed. The island has plenty to offer on days off, from parasailing or kayaking to nature exhibits and wineries.
Housing is provided for a small fee, which comes out of your check weekly. Housing is complete with kitchens, bathrooms, beds, closets, dressers Move in ready. Housing is a 2 minute walk from the restaurant. It's likely that you will share a room with one other person and each house has about 10-12 occupants per season.
Moving in and training begins May 3rd and the restaurant is open until late October. Most of our student employees leave at the beginning of September due to school starting. We are happy to accommodate school dates in the fall for those who need it. For those who stay it is an opportunity to enjoy the island without the large crowds and enjoy the fall atmosphere.

Be aware of where we are located and that you will be expected to live in housing on the island if you accept a position. Put-in-Bay is about a 2 hours drive from Ann Arbor. We can not provide any sort of transportation while you are on the mainland. However, once you get off the ferry and onto the island, we will take over and provide you with an unforgettable summer and fantastic job experience!
