Brinery Production Assistant
Job Description
The Brinery is looking for a production assistant! If you're interested in working for a small local fermented food business with people who love to work hard and have fun, this might be the job for you. Benefits include paid time off, free coffee daily, and a free Brinery product every pay day.
This position averages 30-35 hours per week. You'll typically work four days a week, Monday through Thursday, with possibility of some Sunday Tempeh production.
Most production is scheduled 8am-4pm.
In this position, you'll be involved in all aspects of sauerkraut, kimchi and hot sauce production Monday through Thursday - from washing vegetables, to hand-mixing ingredients, to jarring each of our products to be retail-ready! Sundays are for tempeh production, from cracking and cooking beans, to monitoring fermentation during the incubation process, (It is a delicate and often temperamental culture that requires a healthy blend of science and art). You'll also help with cleanup at the end of each day, which includes washing dishes, squeegeeing the floors, etc.
There is room to grow within this role and our company! We’ll give special consideration to candidates who are passionate/experienced with the art and science of fermentation, as well as those who are handy. Can you fix a leaky faucet? Tune up a label dispenser?
EXPECTATIONS
Available to work Monday-Thursday (possibility of some Sundays)

Comfortable chopping/otherwise using large knives or other large shredding machines that are used in production.
Maintain personal Hygiene as you will be in direct contact with foodstuffs

A Good Shipmate: We will expect that you take instruction respectfully, but that you will also ask questions and offer helpful/constructive feedback on systems as we move forward. Cooperation and communication is important in a small business!
Interested in Fermentation/Local Food Culture: The Brinery is the anchor tenant at the Washtenaw County Food Hub and deeply rooted in local food culture. We will hire the person who shows a genuine interest/curiosity for fermentation, The Brinery and our local food economy
