Small contractor/real estate investor seeking both experienced and inexperienced people for work across the spectrum of building trades. If its about building, rehabbing, or renovating a house, theres a good chance we will do it. If its anywhere near a house or a real estate deal, we might do it. This means painting, siding, framing, wiring, insulation, making a dump or compost run, tree work, staging, furniture refinishing, etc, etc, etc. If you like learning and doing a variety of things, this is a good fit for you.
At present, I am finishing the rough trades for a 2400 house and getting ready for siding, drywall, and flooring. I have plans to build other houses soon after, but we may do work for others or perhaps do a smaller rehab/flip.
If you just want the siding or drywall or some part time thing, Im open, but you must be a sole proprietor and any workers you bring must be covered either by you or me. Id rather have someone who just wants to come and work with me and get paid, not some free estimate or "piece work" hassle.
Important qualifications:
1. Physically fit: Non smoking, strong heart, healthy back, and general capacity to do hard physical work with occasional long hard days without turning to smoking, drinking, or sugar like so many do.
2. Basic construction skills: Reliable measurement, cutting, lifting, operating saws and other equipment.
3. More advanced skills: Wide ranging knowledge/awareness/independence. Internet research capacity. Maybe some specific expertise (siding, roofing, tile). Oh, and clear thinking/alertness.
4. Basic human reliability. If you dont have a tendency/habit of reliable email, phone, transportation, health and attendance, it wont work out for very long.
Compensation:
I prefer a W2 employee at $24-30/hr to start. I am open to a partnership with another sole proprietor or to a 1099 arrangement if you have all your insurance and licensing. I am open to a less experienced person of exceptional virtue (e.g. smart and fit) and capacity to learn, but starting will be a fair bit lower. Open to a higher paid person as well, esp if its just for the short term siding or drywall gig.
Hiring Process: Ill do my best and expect you to as well. Its not like Im a human resources specialist. Its a small company. We should get along or not bother.
