SAFETY MANAGER FMCSA DOT REQUIRED

General Description:

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Truck Safety Manager to join our team. This position will be responsible for ensuring the safety of our drivers, vehicles, and operations in accordance with all relevant safety regulations and industry standards. The Truck Safety Manager will oversee and implement safety protocols, conduct regular safety audits, and provide ongoing training to drivers and staff to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

Develop, implement, and enforce safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations (including DOT, OSHA, and FMCSA).

Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of trucks, equipment, and drivers to ensure safety standards are met and risks are minimized.

Oversee driver safety training, including orientation, refresher courses, and ongoing education on safe driving practices, emergency response procedures, and compliance with Hours of Service (HOS) regulations.

Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Analyze safety performance data, identify trends, and implement improvements to enhance overall safety and reduce incidents.

Monitor and report on driver performance, including adherence to safety policies, driving habits, and adherence to safety protocols.

Ensure that drivers and staff are equipped with proper safety gear and tools to perform their duties safely.

Serve as a point of contact for safety-related concerns, questions, and issues.

Stay up to date with the latest safety regulations, industry best practices, and technological advancements to improve safety processes.

Collaborate with management and HR to support accident claims, workers' compensation cases, and other safety-related matters.

Prepare safety reports and presentations for senior leadership, highlighting key safety performance metrics, initiatives, and areas for improvement.

General Requirements:

Strong knowledge of safety regulations, including DOT, FMCSA, and OSHA standards.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively engage with drivers, staff, and management.

Ability to identify potential safety risks and develop proactive solutions.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and compliance.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Job Requirements:

Proven experience in a safety management role, preferably in the transportation or trucking industry.

Strong understanding of vehicle maintenance and safety standards.

Experience conducting safety audits and inspections.

Proficiency in safety management software and reporting tools.

Ability to develop and deliver training programs to employees at all levels.

Certification in safety management (e.g., CSP, CHST, or similar) is a plus.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Transportation, or a related field (preferred).

Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in safety management, preferably within the transportation or trucking industry.

Experience with safety training and accident investigation preferred.

Shift Requirements:

Availability on-call as needed.

Work Environment:

Office-based.

Involves interaction with drivers, maintenance personnel, and management.
