Staff Technician - Foundation Brake Test Lab

Purpose/Summary Perform repair, maintenance, installation, calibration, and validation of department test equipment. Perform test stand setup with custom instrumentation configurations per needs of test engineer and/or customer requirements. Essential Duties/Responsibilities Other duties may be assigned. As the Instrumentation / Maintenance Technician, you may perform the following tasks in a given day:

Perform maintenance and repair of brake test equipment. Test equipment features pneumatic, electric, and hydraulic actuation systems, may require lifting up to 60 lbs.

Follow the repair/maintenance schedule. Order parts as needed. Coordinate with the external vendor for repair/maintenance.

Keep accurate and complete records for calibrations and maintenance records.

Assist the FBT Manager with creating new designs for brake systems and/or components related test apparatus using mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electromechanical components and other components found in the brake system.

Assist the FBT Manager with developing timing and resource plans for construction of new test equipment.

In collaboration with FBT manager, maintain well-organized validation and/or correlation data associated with the equipment upgrade and new construction.

Perform calibration of test equipment and gauges, associated with brake R&D testing. Gauges include, but not limited to: load cells, torque cells, pressure transducers, LVDTs, temperature and humidity probes, etc. Prepare calibration report.

Assist with unique, one-off, instrumentation and test setup solutions and calibrations.

Assist with new test equipment installation, setup, and prove out.

Assist other technicians, engineers, and equipment vendors in diagnosing problems and suggesting corrective action.

Repair, assist in repairing, or oversee contracted personnel including inspecting completed repairs.

Perform other duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience (minimum required for the position)

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; plus six or more years’ experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge of electrical and electronic components, prints, and troubleshooting.

Ability to diagnose and repair electrical equipment, including motors, switches, switchboards, electrical mechanisms, automated machines, controls, panels, relays, and circuit breakers

Ability to troubleshoot electrical malfunctions, inspecting circuits and wiring for shielding and grounding, and testing electrical equipment for safety and efficiency.

Ability to utilize schematics, drawings, layouts, or other specifications to locate and diagnose trouble in electrical systems or equipment

Able to diagnose equipment for mechanical issues. Locating and diagnosing failures, replacing defective components, and performing basic troubleshooting using standard equipment, detailed drawings, diagrams, sketches, specifications, prints, manuals, and verbal and/or written instructions

Knowledge and competence in light fabrication and machining.

Knowledge in the use of maintenance tools, machinery, and other equipment used to maintain test equipment.

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to calculate unit conversions, work with fractions, and decimals.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Knowledge of Link Engineering systems and general computer programming language skills preferred but not required.

Knowledge of National Instruments signal conditioning and data acquisition systems is a plus
