SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER - Low Voltage, Electrical, Controls and Automation, or Technical (Fire Systems)

Responsible to manage multiple projects of varying sizes and complexities from start to finish while managing a team of project management employees and also has responsibility for business development, project budgets, projections and contracts, job solicitation and project negotiations.

Essential Functions



  • Partners with senior leadership to provide strategic input to key objectives and decisions affecting the business unit and functional work group.

  • Directs all phases and activities of each project to achieve high quality and productivity in the work performed. This includes bidding, budgeting, monitoring projections and establishing goals and standards of performance.

  • Plans, implements, independently manages and maintains all project activities to optimize efficiency of labor, materials, supplies, equipment and tools.

  • Communicates directly with contractors and designers concerning project costs, staffing and scheduling. Prepares and manages timely and accurate project documents, estimates, projections, material release schedules, client information, project schedules, purchase orders, monthly invoices, payments, closeout documents, warranties, drawings, maintenance manuals, final billings, change orders, cost codes and other documentation to support construction project work.

  • Procures materials in a proactive and coordinated manner, working with the purchasing team to reduce the risk of material price fluctuations. Negotiates with vendors and distributors



  • Provides day-to-day direction to project foreman and/or superintendent as needed to monitor productivity goals and build teamwork.

  • Conducts regular job site safety audits and identifies any potential safety risks.

  • Partners with foreman and all project team members to maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of record drawings, project logs (including drawings and specification logs), RFIs, ASIs, change orders, inspections and testing, manuals, project commissioning and closeout activities.

  • Stays informed of new electrical and safety codes, materials, technologies, techniques and practices.

  • Builds effective relationships with customers, foremen, project team, specialty contractors, vendors, suppliers, user groups


  • Travel

    Occasional travel required when needed, sometimes requiring overnight trips. (Typically, once a month)

    Required Education, Experience and Skills



  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience in project management, business administration, construction engineering/management or a related field.

  • Minimum 7-10 years of project management experience. Extensive project management training and skills. Thorough understanding of the project life cycle.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience managing people

  • Trained and proficient in estimating techniques, negotiating, budgeting, costing, contracting, scheduling, pricing and common code requirements.

  • Knowledge of and proficiency with construction methods and materials, costing, power, lighting, systems design and general industry safety standards, procedures and regulations.

  • Skills to read, interpret and understand electrical contracts, plans, drawings, blueprints and specifications.


  • Preferred Experience



  • Field experience with construction (e.g., electrical, technologies, fire, etc.).
