Duties will include:

Provide legal analysis and legal advice with respect to the application of Minnesota and other applicable statutes and rules to fact situations and hypothetical questions presented by the General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel, MDE staff and program areas, and other leadership to ensure MDE's compliance with state and federal laws.

Manage, direct, and coordinate the promulgation and administration of agency rulemaking projects and supporting activities.

Manage and complete data requests in compliance with all relevant laws, rules and regulations.

MDE's Office of General Counsel provides leadership and legal expertise to support the Department's compliance with state and federal laws so that MDE can best fulfill its mission to ensure that every child in Minnesota receives a quality education, no matter their race or zip code.Minimum Qualifications

Juris Doctorate (JD) degree from an ABA accredited law school

Current license and in good standing to practice law in Minnesota, or have the ability to do so within six months of hire

At least three (3) years experience as a practicing attorney in an area of law related to this position

Experience must include the following demonstrated skill, abilities and knowledge bases:

Critical thinking and problem solving skills sufficient to analyze a variety of complex legal issues, identify areas of research, conduct research and evaluate alternatives, make sound decisions and provide legal advice to executives and management on these issues;

Knowledge of principles and practices of legal, ethical and professional rules of conduct;

Ability to think creatively and approach projects and tasks from a continuous improvement perspective;

Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated legal interest in K-12 education legal issues, administrative law, or other area of law related to the position.

Excellent communication skills and written work product to provide legal advice on legal issues to a variety of audiences.

Experience relaying legal analysis or topics to non-legal audiences.

Demonstrated experience building and maintaining good working relationships.

Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize high volumes of work efficiently while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
