FLEET MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN II

Reports To: Fleet Operations Manager

Terms: Regular full-time, hourly

Shift: Schedule dependent on current assignment

Compensation: $33.48/hour with an additional $2.00 shift differential after 3 pm. Pay increases for valid ASE certifications. Scheduled increases to base pay according to Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Purpose:

The Fleet Maintenance Technician II (FMTII) is responsible for conducting essential preventative maintenance and troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing basic equipment break-downs on Eureka Recycling’s fleet of vehicles and equipment. The FMTII is able to perform basic work without assistance, such as brake jobs, and assists others or receives some direction or supervision for higher level repairs. The FMTII plays a vital part in ensuring the vehicles’ optimal performance and reliability, contributing directly to Eureka’s mission of zero waste.

Owns and uses their own basic tool kit on the job. Able to understand basic electrical systems. Has basic knowledge of trouble-shooting, diagnosing, and repairing basic equipment break-downs. Able to perform basic repairs without assistance, such as brake jobs. Able to perform higher level repairs with direction/assistance. Performs all Lube Tech jobs as well.

Responsibilities:

Complete scheduled maintenance and repairs on vehicles as assigned. This includes tasks such as replacing headlights, air filters, mirrors, wipers, and performing basic repairs on brakes, suspension, and exhaust systems.

Conduct regular oil changes and top off fluids according to the preventative maintenance schedule to optimize vehicle performance and longevity.

Execute fleet vehicle maintenance tasks, including tire rotations and filter replacements. Independently and efficiently perform basic repairs, such as brake replacements, using a personal toolkit, putting a high priority on minimizing vehicle downtime.

Perform daily inspections on trucks upon their return to the lot, adhering to a set schedule. Report any findings and priorities to managers and supervisors promptly.

Assist experienced technicians with more complex repairs and troubleshooting, learning on the job from other more experienced technicians.

Accurately document all completed work, labor hours, and parts used in the maintenance software system to maintain comprehensive maintenance records.

Uphold the fleet maintenance team’s tool processes in regards to Eureka-supplied tools, and ensure tools are cleaned and properly returned to the correct location.

Follow all safety policies, such as Lock-out Tag-out, Confined Space, PPE, safe lifting procedures, etc.

Collaborate with the team to maintain a clean and organized work area, promoting efficiency and safety in the shop.

Actively engage in training programs suggested by supervisors to continually expand skills and knowledge related to vehicle maintenance and repair.

Requirements Qualifications:

Mechanical aptitude and relevant hands-on experience in vehicle maintenance and repair, ideally in a fleet or similar setting. Knowledge of and experience with identifying tools needed to perform vehicle repairs.

Satisfactory driving record (MVR report)

Meets all DOT requirements for the position including pre-employment medical exams and mandatory drug testing (if holding a CDL).

Demonstrated proficiency in performing large vehicle maintenance and repair tasks, ranging from basic maintenance to more complex repairs

Solid understanding of mechanical systems, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical components

Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot basic vehicle issues, identify root causes of breakdowns, and implement effective solutions

Owns and proficiency uses a basic toolkit

Able to utilize various hand and power tools to successfully carry out maintenance and repair tasks

Reliable attendance and punctuality to fulfill the schedule with occasional weekend and evening work requirements

Willingness to crawl underneath and on top of trucks, to follow safety protocols, and to perform maintenance tasks effectively

Ability to work with supervision and learn from experienced technicians, demonstrating a willingness to grow and develop in the role.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift and move heavy objects, up to 50 pounds, as required for maintenance tasks

Stand or walk for extended periods during the shift to perform maintenance duties

Ability to work in various positions and confined spaces to access and inspect vehicles

Must climb in and out of truck; bending at the waist, reach overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally; carrying, pushing and pulling

Must have dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of buttons and levers and use of feet to control pedals on equipment

Working Conditions:

Works indoors and outdoors in a shop environment; subject to seasonal and adverse weather conditions.

Regular exposure to fumes, dust, and odors, as well as noise from equipment operation.
