Back to search Location: St. Cloud, MN Department: Fleet Maintenance Posted: 10/15/2024 Location Name: ATS Maintenance - St. Cloud, MN Wage: Depends on Experience Hourly Position Type: Internship Shift: Standard SummaryThe Tractor Intern is responsible for utilizing what they have learned in the classroom setting and applying it while working in the shop. Training will consist of basic shop procedures emphasizing safety, using shop equipment, preventive maintenance, and basic repairs and troubleshooting techniques. Online training courses will be available and most work will be completed while working directly with the trainer or a designated qualified mechanic.Education and Experience

Currently enrolled in a two year AAS Degree in medium/heavy truck diesel program.

Working Knowledge of DOT regulations and Out of Service parameters for tractors, trailers and accessorial equipment.

Working knowledge of tractor/trailer maintenance and diagnostic software.

609 air conditioning certification preferred and/or able to obtain.

A valid driver's license, Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred but not required.

Must be able to operate all related shop equipment.

DOT certified through a school program preferred.

Good communications skills (written, verbal, listening).

A firm understanding of basic computer operations.

Good decision-making, problem-solving, attention to detail and customer service skills (internal/external).

Basic electrical troubleshooting skills.

Ability to read installation manuals and understand manufacturer training.

Working knowledge of proper procedures for handling and disposal of hazardous waste materials.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Perform inspections on company tractors and/or trailers using ATS, DOT, and OSHA guidelines to ensure that the tractors are operating safely.

Move tractors and trailers in and out of the shop for maintenance.

Performs repairs following ATS procedures within standard job times to ensure the equipment is available when needed and to get the drivers back on the road as soon as possible.

Performs all necessary/scheduled preventative maintenance services e.g., oil and grease, air filters, cooling system nitrate, water filters, etc.

Inspects and performs basic trailer maintenance including proper condition and tire air pressure, brakes, lights, and safety equipment and submits reports indicating condition of equipment.

Performs shop clean-up and housekeeping responsibilities as well as other miscellaneous related duties as assigned.

Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.

Ensure safety procedures are implemented and followed.

Must meet productivity standards.

Participate in online OEM training such as After Market Resource (ARC) from Freightliner and hands on training provided by OEM and Factory.

Open repair orders and charge out all parts used on trucks and trailers.

Document work order details within the Company's CMMS program.

Can furnish basic tools or elect to participate in ATS's tool rental program. ATS will provide specialty tools to perform functions of the position.

Meet all ATS and department objectives and deadlines.

Follow all ATS and department policies and procedures.

Works within budget that is set for the department.

Required to work occasional overtime, Saturdays and other shift vacancies as needed.
