We are a nationwide leader in sales and use tax policy. Our work includes administering one third of Minnesota’s revenue sources to fund education, health care, roads, parks, and trails and more. This sales tax audit position will focus on compliance and education of Minnesota sales and use tax laws.PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITES Conducting audits by applying accounting and auditing standards to determine sales tax liability and assess or refund the appropriate tax Reviewing and analyzing business reports, financial statements, and other data to ensure proper sales and use tax has been remitted to the state of Minnesota Utilizing computer and Microsoft Excel skills to review and analyze electronic data and spreadsheets Researching, interpreting, and applying sales tax law to businesses to determine compliance Exercising judgment and decision-making skills to solve problems in a changing field audit environment Independently applying written guidelines, precedents, and standardized work practices to a variety of business scenarios Educating taxpayers on sales and use tax laws specific to their industry and business to ensure future complianceTHINGS TO KNOW:A secure and reliable Internet connection, sufficient to support business applications, is required when teleworking. High-speed Internet (25Mbps) is recommended.Teleworking employees are required to live in Minnesota or in a state bordering Minnesota.Day travel is common. However, you must complete all degree requirements prior to start date.Minimum Qualifications for Revenue Tax SpecialistOne (1) year of full-time professional experience in accounting, auditing, or financeMinimum Qualifications for Revenue Tax Specialist IntermediateTwo (2) years of full-time professional experience in accounting, auditing, or financeorCertification (satisfactory completion of probation) as a Revenue Tax SpecialistA business-related degree as determined by the agency may substitute for experience as follows: An associate degree may substitute for 6 months of experience. Bachelor's degree may substitute one (1) year of experience; master’s degree substitutes for eighteen (18) months of experience; PhD substitutes for twenty-four (24) months of experience.Applicants who meet the above requirements will be further evaluated through the interview process on the following: Knowledge of accounting and auditing principles as evidenced by academic coursework or related work experience. Knowledge and application of personal computers skills, including knowledge of word-processing, spreadsheets and database applications/software. Human relations, oral and written communication skills necessary to deal with taxpayers and workplace associates in a professional and effective manner. Problem-solving skills and organizational/planning skills necessary to independently perform the duties of the position.Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business & Administration, Business Management or Marketing or related degree as determined by the agency.

Master's in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, Business Administration, or related degree as determined by the agency, or CPA.

One (1) year of work experience with sales and use tax laws and returns.

One (1) year of work experience in accounting and/or bookkeeping.

One (1) year of work experience in Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Excel Certified.

One (1) year of work experience researching, interpreting, and explaining tax laws and rules.

One (1) year of customer service work experience communicating orally and/or in writing with customers.

Physical RequirementsRequires occasional moving of articles such as boxes, accounting records, laptop computer, and portable printer.Additional RequirementsPrior to an offer of employment, a background check will be conducted.
