Position Details

General Statement

The Office of Research and Economic Development ( RED ) at MSU includes the Office of Research Development, Office of Sponsored Programs, and the Office of Research Compliance.This position will complement RED by supporting RED Service Centers and positively impacting MSU by providing centralized research services to the larger MSU research community.Duties and Responsibilities

Develop and maintain working relationships with RED Service Center Directors and Staff.

Maintain an accurate list of service center associated lab equipment and critical research equipment housed at MSU .

Develop and maintain electronic inventory databases of research equipment accessible to MSU stakeholders.

Assist service centers in ensuring applicable University policies and procedures are followed, including but not limited to: Biosafety, Chemical Safety, Testing Service Agreements, Procurement procedures.

Develop and implement short- and long-range goals for the standardization of common operations between service centers.

Manage VPRED Facility Improvement Grant program. Develop and manage a system to collect facility and equipment improvement, repair and acquisition requests, prioritize requests, and allocate funds.

Identify and communicate external granting opportunities that support service centers.

Support and lead the RED Sustainability Green Lab program to increase awareness and participation in lab sustainability efforts with the goal of protecting the environment and human health.

Support and communicate MSU’s Chemical Safety program initiatives to MSU labs.

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

Bachelor’s degree in a field of science and experience working in or managing a scientific laboratory, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Expert knowledge and skill in applying and interpreting applicable local, state, and federal regulations and related standards, guidelines and, as applicable, campus policy.

Advanced analytical skills and ability to organize, prioritize, and manage high-level and complex projects within time constraints.

Exceptional organizational skills and ability to multi-task within a compliance program comprehensively, working independently with a high degree of self-motivation, accuracy and efficiency, with little or no direct oversight of day-to-day operations by supervisor.

Experience effectively working with faculty researchers and administrators, students, and staff.

Leadership experience.
