Job DescriptionThis role is based remotely but if you live within a 50-mile radius of Warren, MI, you are expected to report to that location three times a week, at minimumThe Role:Adopting a startup ‘co-founder’ philosophy, you will co-lead the core incubation of early problem discovery to fuel GM growth opportunities by writing lean canvas business models that address early customer desirability, technical feasibility, and commercial viability. As a core member of the Enterprise Innovation Ideate team, you will contribute to sourcing the top-of-funnel innovation portfolio by fostering innovation opportunities with internal business unit partners and scanning industry for trends.You will also partner closely with the Enterprise Innovation DEFINE team to scope and test initial prototypes once early concepts are approved by leadership. Additionally, you will need to stay apprised of GM’s corporate strategic pillars, proprietary IP assets, R&D initiatives, relevant macro trends, disruptive technologies, and the Enterprise Innovation Portfolio to inform our core incubation efforts.What You'll Do:

Co-lead early-stage problem discovery, opportunity analysis and concept definition

For each project, within time-boxed constraints, you will:

Conduct grass-roots customer empathy and initial market research using interviews, focus groups, surveys, and secondary sources leveraging existing insights whenever possible.

Define initial customer persona and problem hypotheses using human-centered design principles.

Design and deploy low-fidelity hypothesis testing to rapidly validate, iterate and generate critical insights that refine the customer definition and pain/gain/unmet opportunity spectrum.

Conduct market sizing and build simplified financial models with scenarios that justify an investment thesis.

Write stress-tested business model lean canvasses for each recommended opportunity.

Create and present strategic “pitches” on whether an idea should proceed/pause/perish/pivot.

Build relationships and partner with GM Business Units across the enterprise to gain early stakeholder buy-in for new concepts and line of business growth acceleration.

Partner with Enterprise Innovation's executive leadership to perform go/no-go analyses related to Enterprise Innovation's project portfolio.

Evaluate and source new ideas, through proactive internal fostering and external innovation scouting.

Exhibit courage and objectivity to ascertain when an idea is not worth pursuing and take action to pause or pivot

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

Bachelor's degree; MBA preferred

5+ years in a growth strategy/innovation consulting, market analysis, strategic planning, or innovation engineering roles with automotive or digital business focus.

Hands-on experience with customer empathy research and low-fidelity hypothesis-based testing leading to synthesized insights, lean canvas development and a startup pitch or corporate activation

Experience evaluating and comparing potential solutions to address customer needs

Experience working with leaders in large organizations and demonstrated ability to influence, cross-functionally align and partner leading to new initiative activation OR experience working with or for startup companies

The ability to thoughtfully make build vs. buy recommendations based on both current capabilities and the expected speed of developing a solution

The desire and demonstrated ability to be both creative and technically minded

Proven curiosity and tenacity to think big (10x) but design a measured blueprint of actionable steps

Excellent relationship building and communication skills

Ability to travel at least 10%

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

Operational scale-up experience are a strong plus; preference will be given to candidates with experience working with or for startups and/or with corporate innovation.

Additional Job DescriptionCompensation : The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of New York, Colorado, California, or Washington.

The salary range for this role is $83,800 - $133,900. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.

Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
