Loader Operator – Job Description Company Summary For over 60 years, Schellinger Construction has been building highways and roads across Montana. We work primarily in Northwest Montana and provide a full range of services, including earthwork, trucking, gravel crushing, concrete supply, aggregate surfacing, culvert/pipe installation, asphalt paving, and retail aggregate supply (gravel, asphalt). As a family business, we invest in our employees over the long term, providing a bonus program and a complete benefits package including, vacation, pension plan, and health insurance Functional Summary Reporting to the Job Superintendent, the Loader Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Loader. This position operates loaders equipped with a front-mounted hydraulically powered bucket which is used to transport aggregate or other materials, feed hoppers or chutes, and/or stockpile aggregates. Stripping and other dirt work is also required. Key Responsibilities The responsibilities of the Loader Operator include, but are not limited to: Equipment Operation
Operate the Loader and other heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.
Understand and follow directions from supervisors as to required work area.
Operate Loader controls to lower and tilt bucket and drive forward to force bucket into bulk material; move lever to raise and tilt bucket when filled, or to dump material;
Ensure a sound understanding of the issues involving ground disturbance.
Operate Loader on public or private roadways, maintaining proper awareness of their surroundings.
Perform routine cleaning and maintenance to ensure smooth operation of the Loade
Must have a solid understanding of, and comply with company policies and procedures.
Safety
Promote, execute and adhere to the company’s safety policies and encourage all employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
Attend and participate in safety meetings and inspections.
Work with regulatory bodies to investigate damage, incidents or near misses in the worksite, and ensure proper procedures are carried out in accordance with the Company’s safety policies.
Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure one-self, or endanger the wellbeing of others.
Wear appropriate protective equipment: steel toed boots, hard hats, eye protection and ear protection
Participate in MSHA training
Teamwork
Contribute towards the success of the organization, which may involve the provision of other technical and administrative support, as required.
Promote a team approach and maintain an open and respectful approach to communication with all employees
Requirements/Experience
1 to 2 years’ experience operating a Loader is required
Knowledge of 980 Cat, 500 Komatsu or equivalent loader and other heavy equipment preferred.
Basic knowledge of road construction materials, road construction processes and industry requirements.
Willing to work overtime, as required.
Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and cold, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
Must be physically able to occasionally lift and carry at least 75 lbs.
Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol testing requirements
Must be willing to travel out of town during season.
