SUMMARY: EVENING/WEEKEND CAREGIVER
6:00 PM to 12:00 AM, with some flexibility
The evening caregiver position is currently open 2-4 evenings per week, and rotating weekend days with other helpers. If you are looking for daytime hours, please see my ad titled Strong Personal Caregiver NeededDays.
This person helps with exercises and standing practice, prepares dinner, sets a table for two and lights a candle, helps with dinner (incl. feeding), then does the clean-up. We do an evening routine that involves exercises, helping me get changed for bed, range of motion and setting me up to sleep. I need someone with a strong sense of responsibility and good organizational and basic computer skills. The ability to work efficiently, independently, and cooperatively with a team is essential. This person should be interested in getting to know me and committed to helping me increase the skills I am working on.
SUMMARY: YOUR POTENTIAL CLIENT
I've been home almost 6 years after spending a year in the hospital trying to recover from a neck broken in two places. I hold a PhD in Clinical Psychology. More important is that I have quadriplegia, mostly paralyzed from the neck down, yet there are many things I can do. I enjoy getting outside, especially into the wilderness. I enjoy sports (adapted downhill skiing, kayaking, horseback riding), physical therapy, working out, reading, yoga and meditation. I like to focus on the positive, but to be truthful, I have to tell you that there are also days when I have to focus on business work and some days are what I call "survival days" days spent staying alive. These can be tough days. By believing in myself and the support of others, I pick myself up and get moving again, and again and again, as many times as it takes. I have regained significant functional skills and there's more to come! I cannot do this on my own I need a consistent home program and that requires consistent helpers. Helpers who are happiest are those who eagerly face challenges and enjoy the rewards that follow.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Previous hands-on personal care experience
CNA not required, but helpful
Must be able to lift, 30-50 lbs.
No back or shoulder problems
Valid driver's license
Personal reliable transportation
Comfortable driving in snow and ice
Must like cats and not to be allergic to them
Commitment to staying about one year
PAYMENT, RAISES, BENEFITS
Following orientation, you will be making $11, $12, or $13, depending on shifts worked. Substantial pay raises occur along the way. Vacation leave and sick time are based on the number of hours you work over a period of time. This is more than any agency pays!
