Organize daily activities that are suitable for the mildly ill child, including appropriate rest and low-stress activities.
Provide appropriate food and fluids that meet the dietary needs of the mildly ill child, which may include special diets based on their condition.
Implement proper hygiene practices to prevent the spread of illnesses, including the disinfection of surfaces and proper handwashing.
Ensure the well-being of the child by providing a clean, safe, and comfortable environment while monitoring symptoms and administering medication as prescribed.
Records observations and keeps accurate records regarding the child’s care including symptoms, medication, activities, and any interventions made throughout their time in the program.
Applies appropriate first aid measures.
Performs any other care required for admissible illnesses and conditions.
Keeps updated on current flu/COVID policies and practices.
Maintains current BLS certification as required
Communicates with parents regarding their child’s condition, any changes in symptoms, and when they might be able to return to their regular environment.
Disinfects toys, equipment, cribs, mats, and any other articles in the program as appropriate.
Responsible for the admission and discharge procedures of the program.
Works closely with healthcare professionals if needed, especially if the child’s condition worsens or if there is a need for further evaluation and intervention.
Adhere to all required health regulations set by local authorities or health departments.
Assists in the review, revision, and implementation of Mildly Ill Program policies and procedures as appropriate.
Child Care Program
Assists other educators/teachers in the center with activities to maintain and ensure staff/ratios for the Office of Licensing-State of NJ when the Mildly Ill Program is not operating.
Assist Manager/Director in team member training on related health issues as appropriate to ensure the team is adhering to all required health regulations set by local authorities or health departments.
Provides information to children and parents on related health issues as appropriate.
Maintains immunization records of all children enrolled in the center.
Assists with the implementation of the center medication policy and exclusion of ill children policy.
Assists with the review, revision, and implementation of any other center policies which may be appropriate.
Attends all required mandatory team meetings and is compliant with all required developmental trainings.
Responsible for maintaining and performing the highest achievable level of technical competence and work performance.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Current and valid New Jersey Nursing license is required
BLS/CPR certification by American Heart Association is required within 60 days of hire
At least 1 year of pediatric nursing experience is required
Experience working with children birth to 13 years of age in a group or child care setting required
BSN preferred
The ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing patient needs, a strong sense of accountability for improving the lives of our patients and their caregivers, an exceptional focus on teamwork, dedication to ongoing education and the ability and passion to deliver the highest quality of care based on a strong sense of patient focus are all required
