Ramsey Golf and Country Club is a private golf club and residential development in northern Bergen County. Our brand-new, upscale American steakhouse, Rare Bird, is seeking a passionate and skilled Sous Chef to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the food industry and demonstrate exceptional kitchen management abilities. As a Sous Chef, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the Head Chef in daily operations, ensuring that our kitchen runs smoothly and efficiently while maintaining high standards of food quality and presentation.

Key Responsibilities:

-Assist the Head Chef in menu planning and the development of new recipes.

-Oversee kitchen staff, providing guidance and training to ensure adherence to food safety and sanitation standards.

-Manage daily kitchen operations, including inventory control, food preparation, and cooking.

-Collaborate with front-of-house staff to ensure timely service and customer satisfaction.

-Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and workstations.

-Monitor food quality during preparation and presentation, ensuring consistency with established recipes.

-Assist in ordering supplies and managing inventory levels to minimize waste.

-Lead by example in maintaining a positive work environment that fosters teamwork.

-Ability to maintain any health department requirements and alcohol requirements by the state and/or county.

Qualifications:

-Proven experience in a restaurant or food service management role, preferably as a Sous Chef or similar position.

-Strong knowledge of kitchen management practices, including food safety regulations and sanitation standards.

-Excellent culinary skills with a passion for cooking and creativity in menu planning.

-Ability to manage shifts effectively while maintaining high-quality service during peak hours.

-Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop kitchen staff.

-Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and front-of-house staff.

-Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Education & Experience

-Minimum of 2-3 years in a similar position with prior experience in managing team members.

-High school diploma or equivalent GED required and prior culinary education preferred but not required.
