Medical Director – Scientific Communications Reports to Vice President Medical and Scientific Services.Job SummaryAs a Medical Director you should have a strong scientific background, expertise in oncology/hematologic oncology and considerable experience in medical communications, across both publications and medical affairs deliverables. You will work in partnership with the Scientific Team Lead and Account Director to lead delivery of broad range of materials, including congress abstracts and presentations, manuscripts, publication extenders, gap analyses, medical education decks, strategic communications platforms, and other materials requiring sound scientific judgment and excellent writing skills. Medical directors work on multiple projects simultaneously and manage their workload under strict timelines. They are responsible for developing content as well as critically reviewing content developed by the writing team to ensure the quality of the copy, scientific accuracy and alignment to the client communication strategy. This role requires someone who is experienced in collaborating as part of a transatlantic team and is comfortable taking ownership of key client relationships.Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Leading development of high-quality scientific medical communications in non-Hodgkin lymphoma and multiple myeloma, including publications (abstracts, posters, primary and review articles, videos, plain language summaries, and slide presentations), and medical affairs materials (communication platforms, medical narratives, and internal training material); may be de novo or repurposed
Contribute to publication planning activities, including workshops, gap analyses and client team meetings
Establish best practices in ways of working that ensure compliance with Good Publication Practice 2022 and all relevant internal/client SOPs
Working closely with medical, editorial, and account management personnel in coordinating work to accomplish project goals
Consulting with creative, account, medical, new business, and varying internal teams to conceptualize and develop video, animation, or interactive assets for assigned projects, campaigns, and/or new business pitches
Ensuring that all deliverables are scientifically accurate, fully referenced, appropriate to the target audience, and meet the clients’ communication objectives and target journal/congress specifications
Leading client meetings for assigned teams, facilitating discussions and providing strategic recommendations
Interacting with key stakeholders and authors (via email and in meetings) to solicit their input, facilitate alignment, resolve queries, and make constructive suggestions about content
Onsite support for activities such as advisory board meetings, publication planning workshops, scientific advisory councils, and medical congresses
Maintaining in-depth knowledge in relevant therapy areas including disease state, treatment guidelines, drug mechanisms of action, product efficacy and safety profile, and competitive landscape
Assisting in the development of project proposals and other new business development initiatives as needed
Assisting with the annual budget process as well as other financial reporting, analysis, and forecasting
Experience, Skills, and Qualifications
6+ years of experience working in a global team within a medical communications agency, or related environment
Strong scientific background, with doctoral-level degree (PhD, MD, MPH, PharmD) in a relevant field preferred
Superior communication skills (both written and verbal) and a proven ability to communicate complex scientific concepts to a variety of audiences including clients, policy-makers, and the external scientific community in a clear, accurate, and innovative way
Desire to be in a dynamic role involving mentally stimulating assignments and direct interaction with clients and authors/thought leaders
Willingness and ability to work both independently and as part of a large team
High attention to detail and experienced at synthesizing and interpreting data from multiple sources
Ability to manage multiple competing tasks and priorities; delegating tasks, problem solving and managing client expectations to ensure projects are delivered within scope and to a high standard
Enthusiasm, team-player attitude, self-motivation, and professional demeanor
Proficient in MS365 including Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and Teams
