Imagine and fabricate new thermochromic and electrochromic material systems

Design and develop prototype devices based on thermochromic and electrochromic materials

Design and construct custom optical and electrical measurement instrumentation to evaluate the properties, function and the art-of-the-possible for these materials and devices

Collaborate with subject matter experts in fields such as electrochemistry, physics, optics, and engineering

Communicate technical progress in reports and presentations to project managers and sponsors

Mentor undergraduate and/or graduate interns

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.Qualifications We Require:

Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or other relevant STEM field

Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

Familiarity with experimental and/or modeling/simulation experience in R&D involving electrochromic and/or thermochromic materials

Familiarity in designing, fabricating and using advanced optical measurement systems

Interest in creating and testing prototype scale devices based on innovative materials

Proven ability to interact with all members of the team, strong documentation and organizational habits, and communication methods that enable cooperation and success within a dynamic and complex work environment.

Strong self-motivation to work effectively as an independent contributor to a larger team.

About Our Team:The Biological and Chemical Sensors Department at Sandia National Laboratories specializes in miniature sensors and sensor-based system for a variety of sensing applications including chemical, biological, and explosives. These sensors and systems can be built into wearable, handheld, UAV, or fixed/installed formats. We have a strong emphasis on nano, micro, and mesoscale fabrication in our R&D including the capability to integrate custom electronics developed in Sandia's MESA facility. We also have state-of-the-art microbiology capabilities to aid in biological sensor development. Our technologies are designed to be non-invasive or minimally invasive, and easy to use in the field or at the point of care.Posting Duration:This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of seven (7) calendar days, including the ‘posting date’.
