About Us: Space Kinetic is a venture-backed dual-use space technology startup building a revolutionary platform for dynamic space operations. We are developing the Longbow, a rotary system that electromechanically accelerates and propels assets (small satellites) through space without firing a thruster or using consumable propellant. Our goal is to leverage this platform to provide the United States a new tool for securing the space domain & catalyzing the emerging space economy.
Mission for the Role: Manufacture and assemble parts critical for the rapid prototyping of Space Kinetic’s Longbow, intent is to be able to iterate quickly through different designs, and this role will directly support the engineering team as we head towards flight.
Your first year:
First Quarter: Quickly assimilate into the Space Kinetic culture, understanding our prototyping needs, and start generating CAM packages for manufacturing. You'll begin by utilizing our current CNC Mills and lathes to produce essential components, aiming to contribute to the next prototype iteration.
Within 3 Months: Identify and document the tooling and machines essential for enhancing Space Kinetic's prototyping capabilities. Initiate collaborations with vendors for parts manufacturing outside our in-house capacity, including specialized coatings and modifications. Assemble the newest iteration of the LongBow with the SK Engineering team.
Over the Next Year: Play a pivotal role in building a prototype poised for flight testing, refining and iterating designs to perfection. Your expertise will directly impact the speed and quality of our prototyping efforts, pushing the boundaries of what's possible in space today.
Basic Qualifications:
Minimum of 10 years working as a Machinist burning chips and writing CAM programs
Extensive experience with CNC mills, lathe experience a plus
Demonstrated ability in precision milling
Familiarity with Microsoft office products software.
A track record of meeting project milestones and contributing to team successes.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under minimal supervision.
Strong communication skills, both written and oral, and the capacity to work collaboratively within a team.
Must value integrity, honesty, and have a high standard for quality and precision.
Flexibility, adaptability, and openness to feedback and new ideas are essential.
Compensation: Space Kinetic values the expertise and dedication our team brings to each project. For the Machinist role, we offer a competitive hourly wage ranging from $25 to $35, commensurate with experience and skill level.
