New York's Newborn Screening Program is a partner in the Federally funded "ScreenPlus" project. ScreenPlus (https://www.einsteinmed.edu/research/screenplus/screening/) is an internationally recognized, comprehensive, flexible, consented multi-disorder newborn screening program. This study aims to pilot screen for diseases that are under consideration for addition to the federally recommended uniform screening panel (RUSP).The incumbent will work with a team that includes physicians, scientists, an ethicist, and others who are experts in the field of newborn screening. The primary lab responsibilities will be to assist with the biochemical analysis of newborn blood spots. Techniques utilized will include automated liquid handler operation and high-performance liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS). Additional responsibilities will include specimen accessioning, punching, ordering, data evaluation and analysis, and routine lab maintenance.This position will be part of a dynamic team serving the Wadsworth Center's mission in the New York State Department of Health's efforts to protect and promote the health of New York's citizens. Come be a part of Science in the Pursuit of Health!Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology and one year of research experience; OR a master's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science.This position will require the incumbent will meet all federal requirements for staff who perform clinical testing, including the educational requirements. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.This position will require the incumbent will meet all Federal requirements for staff who perform clinical testing, including the educational requirements.
