Position Title: Trades Specialist (Upholstery), Residential Maintenance ServicesPosting Number: C240132Employer: StateSalary Range: $48,956FTE: 1.00Position Summary: The University at Buffalo’s Office of Residential Maintenance Services (https://www.buffalo.edu/campusliving/for-current-students/maintenance.html) is seeking a candidate to fill the Trades Specialist (Upholstery) position. In this role, you will work with a team of dynamic and diverse individuals and ensure the proper appearance, functionality and maintenance of the department’s furniture across UB’s North and South campuses. All of the Student Life trades and custodial staff work within UB’s residential halls and apartments.In a typical year, Campus Living houses up to 7,500 students at UB. Our skilled trades and custodial staff care for the buildings our students live in. Their first priority is the health and safety of our students. Without dedicated cleaners and maintenance staff, the university would not be able to have a residential program.As the Trades Specialist (Upholstery), your responsibilities include:
Repair, strip and stain furniture
Maintain inventory
Replace furniture slip covers
Evaluate amount of work required for projects
Make recommendations for repairs/replacement
Arrange and secure springs, padding, and covering materials to frames.
Make patterns, lay outs, cuts, and sews covering materials.
Apply additional decorative treatments as needed.

Four years of full-time experience in upholstering under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program;
Or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in upholstering at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
Candidates must possess a valid, Class D New York State driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a higher education and/or Residential setting
