The BHS Technician (Behavioral Health Services Technician) provides hands-on care to behavioral health inpatients, including assistance and teaching with personal hygiene and activities of daily living. BHS Technicians employ therapeutic communication to build therapeutic alliances with patients and assist patients to maintain or achieve emotional regulation and self-control. BHS Technicians monitor the environment to assure a safe, orderly and therapeutic milieu. BHS Technicians monitor patients for signs/symptoms of decompensation or crisis situations and respond to those situations under the direction of the Registered Nurse. BHS Technicians facilitate group activities under the direction of the Director of Programming and the Registered Nurse. This position requires cross-training in the Crisis Center department. Under the direction/supervision of the licensed nursing staff or their designee, the BHS Technician is responsible for providing nursing delegated/assigned services to patients with mental illness in the Crisis Center. The BHS Technician provides care to individuals with mental illness/ and or co-occurring substance use/abuse diagnosis along with individuals with a dual diagnosis of mental illness and intellectual or developmental disability. Primary duties include providing a safe and secure environment for all patients and providing support to nursing staff and the clinical treatment team. Provides routine patient care and supports the department services in accordance with established policies and procedures. May routinely perform nursing assistant core competencies including blood glucose, vital signs, specimen collections, 12 lead EKG, point of care testing and phlebotomy. Education/Experience: Minimum of high school diploma or GED Experience in behavioral health care field strongly preferred Bachelor’s degree in human services field strongly preferred Associates’s degree in behavioral studies or related field, or equivalent experience highly desired Minimum of 1-2 years of behavioral health or patient care experience preferred Licenses/Certificates/Registrations: Welle certification required (provided during unit orientation and anually) Must have or obtain BLS certification upon hire Salary Range The expected base rate for this Glens Falls, New York, United States-based position is $18.00 to $25.95 per hour. The Monitor Technician is responsible for telemetry monitoring management including initiating monitoring, rhythm strip interpretation, indentification of changes in rate, rhythm or dysrhythmia necessitation notification of the RN and simple troubleshooting of telemetry monitoring equipment. The Monitor Technician assists with reception, computer and unit secretary functions. These functions include, but are not limited to, assisting with medical records (admissions/transfers/discharges) and transcribing selected physician orders.
