Job DescriptionDirector, MSK Library Exciting Opportunity at MSK:Reporting to the Chief Research Informatics Officer, the Library Director leads Memorial Sloan Kettering’s Library, collaborating with informatics leaders to create a modern research facility supporting education, research, and clinical care. The Director drives innovative technologies in information services, advancing evidence-based medicine and research. This role involves leadership, project management, and continuous improvement to meet the organization's information needs.The Director oversees library operations, aligns services with MSK’s mission, and explores the integration of AI/ML and large language models to enhance research support. Responsibilities include strategic planning, resource management, and policy development.The Director collaborates with peers to ensure the library remains adaptive and future focused. Position Overview: Implement Excellent Library Operations
Articulates vision for library and information services and aligns all resources with the medical and research activities of the Center.
Develops short-term and long-term strategic plans for the delivery of uninterrupted information and educational resources and services that support users’ workflows and decision-making.
Evaluates, assesses, and seeks opportunities to enhance organizational and library services, systems, and procedures.
Continue to advance the scope and scale of Archival services to capture and record the history of MSK.
Cultivate, Deploy, and Maintain Innovative Services
Implement and refine library services tailored to the needs of internal teams, while anticipating future trends like Large Language Models (LLMs) and exploring new research support areas.
Collaborate with healthcare professionals to enhance research productivity, ensure compliance with federal regulations, and support scholarly output through centralized systems like the MSK Author Profile.
Work with the Archives Team to develop strategies for acquiring and preserving historical materials.
Provides central access and administration to the scholarly output of MSK researchers via an MSK Author Profile System. Supports compliance activities for the center’s core grant (P30).
Fiscal Responsibilities
Plans new fiscal year budgets that align with organizational strategic plan and presents operating and capital budget proposals to administration.
Approves major budget changes, allocations, and expenditures. Reviews and approves major capital budget requests.
Identifies potential funding sources, including grants, gifts, and revenues, that can augment existing funds. Works with the MSK development office on fund raising opportunities.
Drive User Engagement
Optimizes customer service and decision-making by applying innovative technologies and collaborating with key stakeholders on impactful projects.
Builds and promotes library collections, integrating internal and licensed data to enhance MSK information services.
Continuously seeks user feedback to improve resources, collections, and services aligned with MSK’s research and clinical activities.
Library Community Involvement and Professional Development
Builds collaborative relationships within MSK and with external medical and research organizations, including libraries and cancer centers.
Promotes the Library’s image and represents MSK on regional, state, and national committees.
Stays updated on industry trends to ensure the library delivers cutting-edge information and knowledge services.
Key Qualifications:
Experience using LLMs and/or experience with AI/ML and/or prompt engineering.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated strong leadership and interpersonal skills; knowledge of information technologies and automated systems; extensive experience in planning, budgeting and problem solving
Ability to effectively tailor communication for diverse audiences at all organizational levels.
Comprehensive understanding of trends and issues in academic and medical libraries
Core Skills:
Ability to provide support to academic research, education, and clinical activities.
Ensuring the Library and Archives staff develops services, expertise, and activities responsive to the research and information needs of MSK.
Proven ability in developing an administrative structure and organization, and assesses staffing needed for the effective operation of the library.
Ability to create a strong collaborative, cooperative, and team-oriented work environment.
Ability to think creatively and drive innovation to develop new ideas, solutions, and approaches that improve processes.

This role is based at MSK’s 633 Third Avenue location.
Schedule: Full Time, Hybrid onsite 1-2 days a week
