Job DescriptionTHIS POSTING IS FOR 5 POSITIONS

Respond to and abate various emergency situations at NYCHA developments. (i.e. fires, health hazards, gas leaks, elevator outages, power outages and flood conditions)

Access apartments, elevator motor rooms, basements, etc. (often having to drill locks).

Obtain parts, equipment adapting / fabricating parts, tools or equipment when necessary.

Shut down gas, water or electrical lines, elevators, etc. to prevent injury or further property damage.

Assist Police, Fire Department, residents or other off site development staff; taking steps necessary to abate the emergency.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT: A Motor Vehicle Driver’s License valid in the Tri-State area (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania) is required for this position. This license must be maintained for the duration of the assignment. Three years of full-time satisfactory experience as a mechanic, journeyperson or helper in the electrical trades, the mechanical trades, or the construction or maintenance of buildings; or

At least two years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in "1" above plus sufficient full-time training or education in the electrical, mechanical or construction trades in a trade school, technical school or vocational high school to make up the equivalent of three years of acceptable experience. Six months of experience will be credited for each year of full-time acceptable training or education.
